Lipsey Shoutout

I don't get the Monte Morris comparisons. Other than being solid PGs as freshman, their games seem nothing alike. Morris was a way better shooter. Lipsey is quicker and a bulldog defensively.

I think that the comparison is FR PG, solid with the ball, solid defender, doesn't make a bunch of mistakes. Monte was a better shooter as a FR no doubt. But he also wasn't asked to do as much ball handling or play making.

I'll note that Monte started 17 games as a FR, averaging 28 min, 6.8 ppg (43% 2, 40% 3), 2.6 RB, 3.7 A, 0.8 TO. Lipsey has started all 6 games so far. Averages 25 min, 6.3 ppg (48% 2, 0% 3), 2.7 RB, 4.0 A, 1.8 TO. All I'm saying is that they are more similar than different. Obviously, Monte was a better deep shooter and a little less turnover prone. But he wasn't in the same role either. That said, it's early and half of Lipsey's games were against bad teams. It's yet to be seen whether he keeps improving or he tails off when we get into B12 play.

Am I the only one who think Lipsey is a better PG than Hunter? I really like him not forcing anything and takes what is given by defense.

Hunter is better offensively by far and more athletic. But Lipsey has been extremely impressive so far as a true freshman. And he will likely be a four year player. I’m excited to see how he continues to develop.

I will say though, Lipseys play has made Hunters absence much easier to handle.

Definitely different types of players. Hunter much more of a threat to score and highs were higher but lows so far lower than Lipsey's lows. In terms of actually running an offense, give me Lipsey. Need a bucket, Tyrese.

Hunter scored more because he shot more. He wasn’t a very efficient scorer, shooting less than 40% overall and less than 30% from 3pts

I don't know about better than Hunter. He doesn't have that crazy athletic ability or the chance that he'll just go off and take over a game. But I feel like he is less turnover prone and is a smarter player. He'll make the easy play instead of the flashy play.

I think that you could make a solid argument that Lipsey is our best player right now.

Hunter is more explosive but he can be out of control as well. He is a good player but not a good PG.

JFC. Hunter is going to be 1st team AA this season at this point.

Love what Tamin is doing though. Good maturity, smart, and he went 1-1 from deep tonight. Good game and time/situation to dip a toe back in. Should be a confidence builder.

Hunter is not going to be AA. Do you think he can keep up his current pace, 56% FG, 39% 3 pts, and 93% from FT? This is not a sour grape. I never thought he was a good PG. He is a shooting guard in a PG body. He is more like Lindell Wigginton but a much better defender and much worse shooter.

Not to make it a Lipsey vs. Hunter discussion, but what I love about Lipsey is (as someone mentioned before) he’s a floor general. He doesn’t seem to really force too many things and takes what’s given to him and is always trying to get his teammates involved.

With Hunter, and we saw this really heat up in March Madness last year and is even more apparent now that he’s at Texas, he’s just trying to “get his.” He averaged 5 assists per game for us last year and is averaging less than 2 per game with Texas. Less than 2 assists per game isn’t good for a PG - although I know they do have a couple PGs and he was really our only one last year. I felt like at times last year he would force things and wasn’t the best ball handler

He averaged 3.2 TO last year and has more TO than assist this year . I expect him to average around 15 points per game this year but with a low efficiency.
