With the shooters coming in he could have 10 assists a game and lobbing to Omaha which I can’t wait to watch that!Similar stat line in some regards. Big difference it’s what I eluded to earlier which is the 3 point shooting. Monte made more per game as a freshman then Lipsey is attempting and happened to have his best shooting year percentage wise at just north of 40%.
Another fun stat I thought I'd throw into this thread, because Lipsey's a big part of it:
Through 14 games this year, ISU has not - in any game - had more Turnovers than Forced Turnovers (i.e. the opponent has had more TOs in every game). Even in the two losses!
Last year there were 9 (!!) games where we forced fewer TOs than we committed, and we went 4-5 in those games
Last year we averaged 13.8 TOs per game and forced 16.6
This year we average 13.0 TOs per game and have forced 20.0
I didn't realize we'd improved that much!
Just noticed in the game thread that we're now #1 in Defensive TO% on KenPom.We have also played a tougher schedule this year up through this point.
Lipsey's ball handling, Grill's improved defense, and the additions of guys like Osun and King have helped with creating TOs. It also feels like improved shot selection and rebounding (which has been very good the last several games) have helped limit transition opportunities, which then creates more opportunities (for steels) in the half court.
He definitely is good at taking up the slack, and as I said in the game thread, an uncanny hesitation that leaves defenders flat footed a lot. Like, they don't even jump to block his shot a lot of times because it freezes them. The thing about backing off Tamin is that it means you're allowing him to make uncontested passes and he will make you pay by finding the right guy in the right position. Otherwise the coaches in this league would already be doing it.
Also, he's really good at forcing the defender to make a decision. He's almost always moving forward off the dribble. Guard him and he makes an accurate pass. Back up and he takes it all the way to the rim.

Lots of different people are having the conversation from different angles. Pre-season those who were less optimistic on the upcoming season were pointing to the loss of Hunter as something that wasn't replaceable, and a lot of us, myself included, argued that Hunters production actually wasn't that hard to replace. This season has shown that to be true. That said, Hunter is still a great player, and having Lipsey and Hunter was not an either/or proposition. It was still a loss, and having both players this season would have been amazing. We still think you're crazy, and you were right. The two can be mutually correct.
I totally agree with this. He's deceptively quick.I think he is a lot quicker than some teams are realizing. Seems like he is getting downhill into the lane petty easily when he wants to. And that’s without a strong outside threat which would hypothetically allow defenders to sag off him a little bit (so even more impressive really).

I thought we were doomed for a bad year because Hunter left, we lost out on AJ Green and then Williams was lost for the season. I was wrong. Good coaching, not just Xs &Os, but setting a culture, managing personalities and egos, building team chemistry and getting them to gel has more than compensated for what lost out on. Then we lose Kunz, don't even miss a beat. TJ is doing a great job. Oh and Lipsey has been great!! Like his game better than Hunter's anywayLots of different people are having the conversation from different angles. I've watched enough of Lipsey to say he is better than Monte his freshman year. Way more physical, and playing a way bigger roll than Monte had to. Monte played second fiddle to Kane. I don't see Lipsey playing second to anyone. Watching a lot of basketball and I'd say Lipsey is one of the better pg's out there right now. Gonna be a fun ride watching his career.Similar stat line in some regards. Big difference it’s what I eluded to earlier which is the 3 point shooting. Williams going down was a bigger loss than losing Hunter in my opinion. Hope he's 100% next season. Love watching tape on him while at Temple..Not a huge scorer, but plays nasty D and has some scary dribbling ability.Lots of different people are having the conversation from different angles.
