Remember that Prohm defers to his experience/seniors. I also feel that Lards offensive production goes up with Solo in the line-up ( much like Jackson Vroman's stats did with Homan in the line-up years ago). Remember too, how well Talley was playing at the end of the year, Lastly, Solo is a force in the middle on defense- just ask Tyler Cook.

I can see a Weiler Babb, Wigginton, Shayok, Talley, Solo line-up to start the season. That is a small ball run 'em out of the gym, play good defense line-up. As subs come in, the inside pressure rachets up on the opposition with the athletism of Lard and THT.

Lard has the athletism to guard away from the basket and needs to prove his commitment to do so this year in order to be starting by conference time. If not, Lard will start by conference time depending on the oppositions line-up and big man talent. Also, THT may supplant Talley if he proves to be an All Big XII caliber freshman talent.

I expect Lewis to be a much more reliable three point shooter this year. I also see Jacobsen providing solid back-up for both big men due to his experience in that other league. Halliburton will be eased into play and readied for success next year, as will Griffen.

Here's hoping our reserves get lots of mop-up time this year.

I think Prohm is going to start Solo most of the year. He likely won't be in the top 5 for minutes played by the end of the year (maybe not even in the top 7), but I think he'll start most of the year.

Wow I don't know how I missed this thread. Sorry for delayed response.

For me one of the key ingredients to the lineup next year is how well Lard and Solo play together. For me, they don't really compliment each other at all. I believe Talley and Jacobson do compliment each of those guys and my lineup will reflect that.

Another caveat in my lineup is that Shayok came to ISU to play with the ball in his hands. Wigginton will also want the ball more. Babb had good stats at PG last year, but as the year went on the offense bogged down and the results weren't there with Babb at PG he is a 2 or 3 on this team.

I also believe that one of Wigginton and Shayok will play large mins, with that said:

Lewis and Haliburton could see some mins as well but that is prob close to how the 9-11 shake out. You could easily see Solo or Jacobson flipping with Lard or Talley. Like I said before I don't like the Lard and Solo together and we are better splitting them moving forward IMO.

Frankly, I think the fact NWB was injured and attempted to play through injury for most of the season has more to do with the offense getting bogged down later in the season than a lack of talent or fit by him. He was on an all conference pace until injury fully slowed him down. Here is his stat line from the time he took over point guard duties until mid January when it was clear he wasn't physically right. Note that this includes the first 5 games of the conference season.

13 pts, 8.4 A, 8.1 R, 1.3 S, 0.4 B, 2.6 TO, .833 FT%, .292 3PT%, .518 2PT%, 38 min.

And before anyone says "but non-conference cupcakes" here is the stat line for just the conference games in that stretch.

13 pts, 8.4 A, 8.2 R, 1.4 S, 0.4 B, 3.4 TO, .714 FT%, .157 3PT%, .528 2PT%, 40 min.

Lard at 30 minutes might be optimistic unless he finds a way to foul less (or not get picked on by the refs, which was part of his problem last year). I also think we will play a little more small ball at the 4, in part because it's a luxury we didn't have much last year.

Edit- so maybe take 5 from Young at the 4, give those to THT or Talley, and give him 5 more of Lard's minutes at the 5.

Tough call. I think he will be a deadly 3point shooter for us his whole career, just a matter of when he turns it on. This year or his last two years.
