Linebacker depth and progression

However, not one will amount to crap in the NFL, unless the same people running the stopwatches in Iowa City do the same at the combine.

:biglaugh:

I assume this is in response to the ridiculous times Angerer and Edds put up at Iowa's pro-day. You're right, there's no way Iowa could possibly have fast linebackers, they must be lying about those 40 times!!

Here's the latest spring depth chart, feel free to update if there is something new out:

SLB Justin Rumple 6-3 212 JR
Josh Raven 5-11 230 SR
Kevin Hamlin 6-3 210 FR#

MLB Jesse Smith 6-0 231 SR
Derec Schmidgall 6-2 230 SR
Patrick Neal 6-1 229 SO#

WLB Fred Garrin 6-2 230 SR
AJ Matthews 6-3 197 SO#

Thoughts anyone?

That group is scary... and not scary good.

whats more scary... look at whats left when the 4 srs leave.

Ridiculous, I know. The were ridiculously slow.
Jacody Coleman is better than Pat Angerer. He ate a Big Mac in like 2 seconds.
Jeff Tarpinian is way better than Jeremiha Hunter. He made from here to Newman's and back in under 30 seconds.
Tyler Nielsen AND Troy Johnson are both better than AJ Edds.

But those guys pale in comparison to the 3 recruits Iowa has committed. Gray, Morris, & Poggi may all graduate early from HS and show up in the Fall an bypass all seven of them - Cause Iowa is like Linebacker-U.

The have Chad Greenway in the NFL at LB, and they have...ah...er...Greenway is in the NFL.
I know, Abdul Hodge stared in Green Bay, but injuries have not permitted him to play. But we have Chad Greenway in the NFL. Linebacker-U!
Regardless, I'd take Tiller as a WR one on one versus any of them in coverage. Hope it happens again this year.

How about you go trolling at Big Creek instead of here?

Well...if you insist.

May I present to you...the greatest trio of linebackers in the nation!

What? They're not the best? WELL... I think we need to debate this for about 10 pages...

Inmate 49311, Inmate 23918, Inmate 73231.... Block 3 Johnson County Jail.

cydude, what are you talking about? Angerer, Hunter, and Edds have never gotten charged or convicted of a crime.

I don't know if you have heard, but some Iowa players have been having a couple run-ins with those pesky Law Enforcement Officers recently.

It's what we with a sense of humor call a joke

We desperately need LBs and DEs in this next recruiting class.

I can't believe that Jesse Smith, Josh Raven, Fred Garrin, and Derec Schmidgall are all seniors. Add to that the departure of Ernest Ferguson and Cameron Bell.... and we are in a world of hurt.

Taufou, Klein, Jackson, and Knott may HAVE to play this year just to get some game experience under their belts for next year when they will HAVE to start.

I'd have to think that the coaching staff might be looking at playing more of a 4-2-5 scheme? We have a lot more D-back type guys than LBs right now. In fact, both Hamlin and Matthews are not Big 12 sized LBs whatsoever... so maybe they will be more of a LB/Safety type combo roaming player? Would make sense in defending the spread offenses of the Big 12 anyway?

Princeton Jackson is going to be a stud. My guess is he gets some playing time this year, as previously stated by someone else, because his speed will make up for some lack of size. I agree completely with whoever said he is going to turn into and Alvin Bowen type player... I've watched a few of his high school games and the kid is impressive. We're lucky to have him.

I haven't seen Jackson play but I have seen Knott, and I agree with the guys who think he could be a sleeper and take advantage of our weakness at the position to get some pt early in his career. He reminds me of an Ankeny lb from years ago named Kevin Spitzig, who unfortunately went on to become a good lb at iowa.

yeah we saw a picture of him up above already..getting burned by bates, costing the game for the hawks.

Hey mod's, can't you delete these incessant and annoying bumblebee posts when all they want to do is change the subject to their team? No true CF's want anything to do with the dark side; we don't watch the games, we don't look at their pictures, and we don't need comparisons. It's really gotten out of hand, IMO.

100% agree. Start weeding out some of these idiots. This doesn't need to be their home.

I may be wrong (or was busy watching my 18 mo old), but I seem to remember us going with 5 DBs at times during the spring game, with McDowell lining up almost even with the LBs.
