Lifting Weights.

Cyber, I feel your pain on this. Try losing 140 lbs, then not being able to lose any more for a year. There could be a number of reasons for stalling, or combination there of:1. You might need to throw in one day a week where your calories are around 3500 to keep your metabolism high. You can stall if you are decreasing calories because it signals calorie

Given that I have lost almost 150lbs I think I know what I am talking about. For people who want to lose weight long term "calorie deficit" through dieting alone is not long term sustainable.

if youre stuck after 150 pounds of loss, change what you are doing and add EC Stack and continue on your way. This is the correct answer. end of story.

Just got done jogging again it said I burned 251 calories, @ 1.56 miles. Every week I'm trying to increase the amount of time I am jogging by 30 seconds, eventually hoping to get where I can jog a full mile without walking. Right now I'm going for about 1:30 to 2 minutes and then walking for 5 and doing that 3 times.

Nobody is saying to diet alone. But diet is an important part of weight loss.

Truth of the matter is if you are like 300 pounds you are used to eating over 4000 calories a day and not working out.

How do I know? I weight over 300 pounds and have lost a lot of weight. When I just exercised, I initially lost weight, then maintained after a while. When I actually followed portion sizes and watched what I ate, I lost like 2-3 lbs a week.

I didn't do anything crazy, I ate about 3300-3500 a day then started scaling it down.

Big thing I see with people is they eat too many carbs relative to the exercise they do. They need carbs but not as many . Also drinking sodas and mochas and stuff like that are calorie bombs.

I eat true portion sizes when it comes to meat and dairy, and eat unlimited fresh veggies with no butter no oil (just balsamic vinegrette).

When I eat bbq, I put on pickles and eat hot sauce (all low cal). When I eat sour cream, cheese, etc., I eat fat free or low fat and moderate.

You can eat the things you like, but you need to do it in moderation.

Nobody is saying to not exercise and just lose weight by eating. We are saying that exercise will get you somewhere but eventually you have to look at what you eat if you are having troubles and you will have to look at how to boost your burn. As you lose weight, you have to put in more intensity in order to burn the same amount of calories.

Example: Running when I was over 300, I would burn 200 cals/mile. Now at a lighter weight if I ran at that pace it would be less. In order for me to burn the 200, I would have to run faster. Carrying around more weight makes the body work harder; when that weight starts to go, you need to find ways to go faster, harder, or to add weight/resistance to exercises.

If you are this out of shape you should just get to the point where you can run for 30 minutes non-stop. Once you get to that point you might think about hitting the weights.

Wrong, putting on lean muscle helps with weight loss more than jogging. However I doubt 3/4 of this board could jog for 30 minutes without stopping.

You need to shoot for moving for 30 minutes total. It looks like you are for like 18-20 mins.

Here's what you should do:

1. Walk for 10 mins
2. Next 15 mins: jog 30 secs, walk until you recover, jog 30 secs, walk until you recoer, jog 30 secs
3. Walk last 5 mins

When you get that down, #2 turns into jog 30, walk 30, jog 30, walk 30.

In about a month, you'd be able to run 1 or 2 miles.

If you can't even run a mile, not worth killing yourself in an unorganized way

The plan that I am doing seems to be working alright, i just up the time jogging every week. Not really killing myself, and total workout is 30 minutes.

No it's not. Jogging 1:30-2 then walking 5 = 6.5 - 7 mins each set.

You said you did it 3 times. 6.5 * 3 = 19.5, 7*3 = 21, 19.5-21 mins

You are adding wrong:

5 walk
1.30-2 Jog
5 walk
1.30-2Jog
5 walk
1.30-2 jog
5 walk
= 23.9-26

I think the point is that doing weight lifting requires some cardiovascular endurance. If that's low you won't be able to lift at the intensity that you would like.

Plus are you losing weight to lose weight or do you want to be healthy? I think any healthy person should be able to jog 30 mins non-stop.

But it's your life. You came for help and people are just trying to help. Nobody is forcing you to listen to us.

I wouldn't consider jogging 30 minutes straight to be a high standard, it's just that a lot of people have mental blocks against running. Think about running a 10 minute mile pace -- that's a nice slow jog and if you're in decent shape you shouldn't be very tired after that. Just do it two more times.

The thing about running is that if you try to take it slow, you'll never improve. You have to push yourself past what you think are your limits to ever get any faster. That said, I agree that jogging is not a good tool for weight loss.

I think you are taking this the wrong way, I'm not saying I shouldn't be able to jog for 30 minutes just that I can't right now and I doubt 3/4 of the board can. Not say I don't want to be able to, as that is what I'm working towards.

I seriously doubt this. Hell, I smoke a pack a day and can still do this.

I would like to see how many could do this. And I guess I would rather be not able to run for 30 minutes than smoke a pack a day but to each his own. I'm also quitting smoking haha.
