Liberty Bowl Tailgating?

Buy tickets through ISU, there are several tailgating options without doing there ticket inclusive package. I called the Liberty Bowl office today and here are some things I was able to find out: They don't sell the tailgating spots in Tiger Lane (ones with grass pad and outlet) individually (other than what people say was put on Ticketmaster, that's great!) unless they don't sell out of packages and then they said they would sell the spots for $35. I gave my contact info to be called if they don't sell all packages to purchase only a tailgating spot (might try ticket master now instead) and I'm sure others could do the same. Also said that paved lots are very strict on keeping tailgating to just your parking space as they usually sell those lots out. He said best option is to go Purple Lots which are grass lots where there is a lot more freedom to set out games, throw football around, etc. He said these are $10-$15 a spot and are a 5 min walk to the stadium max (can see stadium from tailgate). He said paved lots are slightly closer than purple, but didn't say if they cost more. Take this information for what it's worth.

The BBQ Bowl, unfortunately, he told me is not for the general public to eat/purchase tickets for and it is merely a contest. We had kind of hoped to do our tailgating on a smaller scale and use this as our pregame meal, but no dice.

This isn't totally new info, but regarding tickets and our allotment, he told me that we would be on the east side and our allotment is from section 116 to section 126. He said the band will be in 117 and that ISU is deciding between putting students in 116 next to the band or in sections 124-126 and were leaning towards the latter. Due to the high number of student tickets sold so far I'd say that's a good bet.

Hope this is helpful.

Good info! Should help out a bunch of people who are trying to decide how to handle the tailgating. I'm a bit disappointed that the BBQ Bowl is a contest only and not for the public to purchase. Sounds like the purple grassed lots with tickets purchased through ISU is the way for a lot of people to go for tailgating.

My thoughts exactly

Does anybody know if you can set up a grill just behind your vehicle for tailgating in the basic parking lot?

Looking at the tailgating map, where is the majority of people going to tailgate (i.e. red lot, blue lot, tan lot, purple lot, etc...)? I don't want to buy a tailgating spot and find myself in the middle of blue and gold and Golden Hurricane flags everywhere!

I'll have to find it but I received something from ISU that said they'd have a $35 tailgate...all you can eat AND DRINK. Might be worth it.

Does it include parking? Or is it just for food per person?

Good info about the BBQ event being private. I also was planning on that for our tailgate food.

If anyone has info about a tailgate that ISU is putting together, please post the info.

Driving down with a group of 6 in a minivan. Not enough room to pack the usual tailgate supplies.

What's everyone else doing for tailgate setup?

I saw that posted about the $35 tailgate. All You can eat BBQ and All you can drink wine and beer. Now I can't find it. Anyone have the info?

just wanted to bump this to see where cyclones are tailgating. I would also prefer to pregame with some cyclones and not end up surrounded by tulsans. is there any set plan of we cyclones to gather in a certain lot?

Good idea. Perhaps some of the Cyclone Fans who bought the Tiger Lane tailgating spots can tell us where they are so we can pack in near them.

I would hope that the Liberty Bowl folks would define certain lots for each team, much like for the KSU game in Arrowhead. But maybe this is way off base????? Any veteran bowl trippers/memphis locals out there with more info?

Reading through this I've realized now that I've bought the ISU BBQ AYCE tailgate I don't know where I'm parking. Does anybody have a link to where to buy parking or if there are actual outdoor tailgate lots? I saw somebody posted they'd bought tix to a grass lot somewhere through ISU? Link?

Interesting that you cannot grill or have an open flame in the super duper lot with a grass patch and electrical outlet. We just determined we can go and are trying to figure out what type of tailgating arrangement we can work out. The multitude of tailgating/parking info (and I just drank a 120 minute Ipa from Dogfish Head so I am a little groggy) has me wondering if you can use a grill or open flame in any lot other then the tiger tailgate area?

I think you are mis-understanding where grills are prohibited. They are prohibited on the interior lawn of Tiger Lane, not in your tailgating space. See this thread:

Wondering if anyone else plans on getting tailgating food from vendors in the parking area and if we will have many options? Thanks!

We are going to get things locally and have a fairly simple tailgate with burgers and beer.
