Anyone have a Level 2 charger at their home? https://www.alliantenergy.com/Innov...cts/ElectricVehicles/EVHomeChargersandRebates

If so, recommendations on which type of charger and who you have install it?

I'm thinking about getting a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) and am thinking about getting a Level 2 charger since it charges the vehicle in 2 hours vs 14 hours for a level 1 (normal plug in). Plus, Alliant and the federal government would offset some of the cost.

I don’t know about the chargers themselves but any electrician should be able to install them. It’s just a 220 line similar to an electric dryer or electric range. Cost will probably depend greatly on the location of your panel compared to the location of your charger. I believe these need a 50 amp dedicated breaker.

Just check out what bells and whistles you want. Bare bones does the trick for me. Higher priced options will have more functionality such as programmable timers (which aren’t really necessary as cars will most likely have that onboard already). Two way charge/discharge may eventually become an issue as utilities begin to tap into EV batteries to help manage the grid (at least where I live it will be a thing) but that is probably a few years down the road.

As already mentioned, any electrician should be able to install.

$872 installed for me last week. Involved cutting out some drywall for doing in-wall runs. Had the electrician been able to fish it initially it would've taken about 15 minutes.
