Leonard Glass

I'm not convinced you can have a robust TE group and also have the hybrid type player like Glass. I'm just not sure 85 scholarships allows you to do that. Yes, you can have one or two on the roster but then can you afford to put in a gameplan that uses them in that fashion even though you only have a couple of those guys? I tend to think they have to be able to play WR or RB and be effective doing it. If that's the case then you can throw some wrinkles out there with them to try and use them in space or something but I just don't see a future where you're carrying 4 TEs and 4 of those guys along with your RB stable. Teams like Oregon and FLorida of the past would just make all of their WRs and RBs these guys if they had to but Campbells roster construction isn't anywhere similar. Campbell wants to be big more than he wants to be incredibly fast. Kene has been hurt a lot so it may not be fair but we haven't been able to really give him anything different than a standard RB look. We're probably better off just continueing what we're doing with TEs, get quality WRs who are real WRs, elite RBs, and forgo these hybrid guys.
You figure what have around 10 scholarship WR's on the roster, there's always room for 1-2 of these smaller shifty speed guys. Jones, Milton and even Akers fit in this category. Look at what Campbell was doing at WR when he was at Toledo, he had a nice mix of WR's. It's nice to have a couple big jump ball guys on the outside, the speedsters in the slot and a do everything type at the other spot. Think Lazard and Butler outside, Jarvis West in the slot and someone like Austin Flynn or Quentin Bundrage as the do everything/make catches all over the field type...

Even before hearing that Glass is leaving, I have been thinking that Milton will probably move back to the slot next year. He's not as productive on the outside, and with Jones graduating it would make sense. We got plenty of outside guys returning.

Honestly I thought Glass would surpass Akers as the #2 M WR behind Milton next year. Akers has taken a big step forward which will likely limit Glass' snaps next year. In the end I'd rather lose players that can't get on the field than players we need on the field.

Those guys aren’t like that at all. Jones and Akers are slot receivers and Milton is a receiver. He might go back to the slot but he doesn’t need to. Campbell hasn’t ever utilized those small guys. We heard about it with Jones and have seen next to none of it mostly because he’s not that type of player.

Milton doesn't need to move back to the slot but in ISU's offense he would be a lot more productive there. Jones has 52 catches this year. That's more than 25% of the teams catches. The thing with Jones is that he is just not explosive. Milton only has 24 catches this year. He had 34 out of the slot last year as a backup.
