Larry E kicking some butt!

What was the zinger at his mother-in-law?
She told LE that he could have stopped drinking any time that he wanted to. He called her out for it LOL

Also, I'm glad to see that Larry is doing well at CSU. Hopefully see them in March.

No doubt better than 20 beers, but 20 cans a day of diet coke is not good for the old stomach lining.

I hope he never ends up in the Big 12 again. I don't want to play against him because I wouldn't like to see him lose. Maybe he could go to PAC 12 or the Big Ten.

The article made it sound like he wanted to coach in Fort Collins until he's ready to retire.

Exception: If and when Fred does take an NBA job, say in 2023, I'd welcome Larry Eustachy back to ISU with open arms. And boxes and boxes of Diet Cokes.

I do not wanna run into Larry E in March. He's one helluva coach. Center Colton Iverson transferred out of Minny where he was average at best, and at Colo St under Larry he was just an absolute beast and team leader.

Looks like I will continue to keep my signature quote line for a while longer. I could never be happier for the class leadership we have with Fred.

I think this was an embarrassing episode for Iowa State athletics. Eustachy was upfront, said he had a problem that he wanted to fix and the university played judge, jury and executioner. It was embarrassing how inhumane and unforgiving ISU was for a man seeking help.

The decision and how it was handled shouldn't have come as any surprise. I often wondered if BVD was human... the question still remains unanswered for sure but his handling of the situation sure leads one to believe that he isn't.

A lot of private companies have a policy that if you have a substance abuse problem and ask for help, they will help you...however, if you wait until after you've screwed up and then ask for help...you're on your own.

I don't work for a private company, but we have a policy that if someone screws up and has alcohol or drugs in their system at work they have the opportunity to be go be evaluated and go into treatment on the employer's dime. If they refuse they are subject to discipline which generally means termination. If they go and complete whatever prescribed program successfully they are eligible to return to work. There aren't any third chances with this policy however.

When it happened I was upset that they didn't get him help and give him another chance. Later I read that he said that he hadn't hit bottom and it essentially took getting fired for him to truly realize he had a problem and take treatment seriously. So it is likely if they hadn't canned him he would have been right back there soon so I am no longer upset by it.

As someone who has had to deal with a lot of addiction in my family I think the guy who is pooh-poohing it being a disease is an asshat. If you need something more concrete to call things a disease, just look at the chemical imbalances in the brain in a lot of mental illnesses. They are no different than other illnesses, it is just that we don't understand them nearly as well.

Hey...be careful not to dislocate your shoulder as you pat yourself on the back.

I guess there always has to be "that guy" in any conversation......so here I go. I thought it was a great piece and enjoyed reading how he has come to grips with himself and is having success. However with that said...................I cringe at when people insist that an addiction is a disease. It's not Larry. Cancer is a disease. Being drunk is not. You don't go to the local git-no-go after practice and buy a six pack of stage 4 thyroid cancer. And you cannot just show up at an encounter group of fellow cancer patients to encourage each other to just give it up.

are you a grown adult or did your mom or dad leave the computer unattended with CF pulled up to this page?

I would love to see a home and home, or even a 2 for 1 series between ISU and CSU get started. I would definitely drive across Colorado to go to Ft. Collins for a game.

Really, just because he doesn't believe something that has its roots in bad choices and lack of control isn't a disease. I can buy that alcoholism is like a disease, but it is not a disease. Political correctness won't change my mind on that. Grown adults also don't usually chastise someone like you did just for not agreeing with you.

I'll gladly take up this argument regarding alcoholism if you like...and yes, grown ups do chastise people for making factually incorrect statements. That's actually part of being an adult. And my comment, however insensitive you may find it, is arguably less insensitive than the millions of people the OP may have offended with his "opinion", were they to have access to it. This is not a matter of PC...and that you don't understand that helps explain your post.

I'm so glad Larry got his life in order. He meant a lot to quite a few Cyclone fans. Sometimes it's more than wins and loses. He turned his life around from a very dangerous disease, and has righted the ship. He should be proud.

The AMA first defined alcoholism as a disease in 1956. It is kind of ridiculous that some posters are still living in the early half of the last century.

Come on people, He was probably not drunk when he chose to got to the Missouri Fraternity party. The picture was what got him fired, not just because he was a drunk. If he was truly sorry, he would have just walked away and got his life in order. But he took millions from us since he wanted paid for broken contract that I can't see as ISU's doing. Doubt at that time he was ready for AA. However the best of luck to him after as everyone deserves a 2nd chance at a new place.
