Kum & Go Beer

The critics agree: Hiland Lager "is not bad beer" and "hey, this stuff is decent"

Even though it took about 20 minutes of finagling to get people to break with the old standards, everyone was shocked at how surprisingly good it was.

Everyone seemed to appreciate the low-cost point, drink-ability and 5% ABV.

I asked if there was going to be an n/a version any time soon...not in the cards. Darn it.

We had a little blind taste test yesterday with Bud Light, Highland light, and Miller Light. What's funny is about everyone got Miller Lite and Bud Lite mixed up. Everyone could tell which one was Highland but everyone seemed to think it was ok. Probably buy it again if it's cheap.

I have been enjoying high life light this week. $15 for 30. No reason to drink Kum and Go beer when you can live the high life!

Thought I'd try another flavor. Got a 12 of the Hiland Ice. Pretty good but be careful the 12 packs have ends that easily open.

The more I drank the Hiland Ice the more I didn't like it. I think I'll stick with the light.

If anyone is interested in trying the new Hiland beer at Kum and Go, tomorrow might be your lucky day.

Tastings for Friday, October 8, 2010 | Hiland Beer

I was meaning to drop in and let people know about the tastings we're hosting across Iowa tonight, but it looks like you've already beat me to it.

If anyone is interested in checking out the brews risk-free, tonight is a great opportunity. We'll have samples out at four stores in Ames plus about 55 other stores throughout Iowa. The tastings will be happening each Friday in October - we post the list of stores each week.

Lastly, thanks to those of you who've already tried a Hiland beer and have been sharing feedback. It's great information for us to take back to our team.

Disclosure: I work for Kum & Go at the corporate headquarters in West Des Moines.

They need to use better glue on those 12 packs. Mine was ripping out at both ends and I was going to take it back but the guy at the register said "they all do that".

The glue used for the boxes has been fixed for our next production run. Thanks for bringing this up though; it's comments like these that we want to see from customers.

20 pack for $10. Excellent value. I tried it for the IOWA-ISU game so I needed a few to soothe the pain. It was what I expected out of an inexpensive beer but better imo than the likes of Natty and Busch. (And I grew up on Busch)
