KU vs Somebody Diallo's first game

I am with you there. I'd put a conference tourney title above a non-con tourney title. KU only had to play one tough game to win Maui this year. This year, I'd value the WUG gold medal more than the Big 12 tourney title, though. 8 games in like 10 or 11 days? That was brutal and a once in a lifetime experience for those players.

So we have given up any pretense that the team from the USA that played in the World University Games was "team USA"? Good to know. Probably explains their uniforms in the first game.

So am I reading this right? Are you saying winning something like the Maui tournament or some other early season tournament is more important than a major conference tournament?

Yeah, depending on the field, it is for me. In a conference tournament, you are playing against the same set of teams you played for the previous two months. Early season tournaments provide opportunities to play against big name opponents that you rarely compete with.

That's pretty stupid IMO. I don't know how anyone couldn't go

1. NCAA Tourney
2. Conference Regular Season
3. Conference Tourney

In that order

Dude, come on.

I didn't read through the entire thread, but that was not a Karl Malone or BDJ dunk. That was a LeRon Dendy dunk. Real recognize real.

Diallo will help Kansas, and Kansas has one of the best rosters in the country. What they don't have are guards with a consistent killer instinct. This team comes down to Wayne Selden. That's it.

He tried to block EVERYTHING last night and every shot that went up in the paint while he was playing was impacted. And for the record, his wingspan is two inches LONGER than Embiid's.

Diallo is exactly what KU needed.
This is what Perry Ellis Oldman needed.

I don't know, guess it's just a matter of personal preference. Conference Tournaments just don't do much for me.

Tuco, are you finally convinced that Diallo is more then just a role player? Or are you still delusional?

Can we go ahead and add a couple of players from other teams to bolster our squad and fill a few holes before the NCAA tourney this year?

That said, 8 games in 10 days is really brutal.

Oh, I'd LOVE for you to find where I thought he'd just be a role player. Your shtick is fun but I can't even play along with that one.

Only if you remove a few because of where they were born.

Speaking of dunks, I can't believe no one dogged on Mason yet for getting stuffed by the rim last night on a dunk attempt. And yes, an aggressive Selden makes KU very tough to beat. The more aggressive team almost always wins in college basketball. I am hoping adding a high motor guy in Diallo helps keep the rest of the team playing aggressively even when they are drained at times.

Ahem..

This sounds a lot like how you would describe a role player to me.

If you consider "not a make or break player" to be the same as a role player then there's really not much need to continue this conversation. Not having Diallo wouldn't eliminate KU from serious Final Four and national title hopes which by definition means he isn't a "make or break player". I would definitely call Mason and Ellis and possibly even Selden KU's make or break players. Remove one of them from the team, even with Diallo, and I think they are no longer a serious FF candidate.

Fair enough. I wouldn't take that this year but looking back I would trade about twice as many foreign born ISU players as I would keep:

Keep:
Mitrou-Long
Ejim
Hubalek
Rancik
Michalik

Trade:
Tsalmpouris
Edozie
Staiger
Vanderbeken
Staple
Rampton
Danielson
Duarte
