KU Challenging NCAA

This is another reason I am skeptic about movements to allow college athletes to get paid. We already have some getting improper benefits illegally that aren't being held accountable and now if you open up some legal opportunities who isn't to say that coaches and "friends of the program" at blueblood schools aren't going to line up some more lucrative loophole "opportunities" for recruits that it will basically be near impossible for smaller schools that don't have a deep pool of wealthy donors to be able to be in the running for elite players when these schools can offer them way more in monetary opportunities. I know there are going to be rules around that but to me I worry that it's going to make it a lot harder to uncover improper benefits and recruiting violations when people already are loosely following the more strict rules in place right now.

But IT’S ALREADY HAPPENING. Making it legal just eliminates the black market that already exists and favors the big schools. The only thing that changes is that instead of giving the car to the uncle, the SEC bag man could give it directly to the kid. Not only is it morally right to allow “student-athletes” to get paid, it probably levels the playing field for coaches that aren’t currently willing to get that dirty. Plus, taxes.

So you want shoe companies to be able to keep cheating while the players have to risk their eligibility to get their fair market value because you're worried that if the players are allowed to legally receive their fair market value then the shoe companies might keep cheating?!?

Self has shot this down multiple times already. If Self is allowed to coach Kansas next year then he will be the coach at Kansas and he will not be leaving Kansas until he is told that he must leave.

And how many coaches in the history of sports have ever denied interest in other jobs only to end up leaving anyways? Of course he is going to say that now because there currently is no job opening and he still has to recruit his current job. It's all speculation right now obviously so what benefit does he have to say "yeah if the Spurs job opens up and they give me a call I'd definitely consider it."

Heck we've had a coach at ISU tell the press he was "firmly entrenched in Ames" only to take another job just a few weeks later. Not that I was sad to see Chizik go because I wasn't sold that he was going to be successfully at ISU or committed to stay long term if he was but he's a prime example how coaches will deny they have interest in other jobs.

If Bill Self takes the San Antonio Spurs job next season, I will stop posting on this site forever.

Edited as to avoid any loopholes.

Since Kansas and Self are in the tournament I thought I'd bump this to remind peeps that the NCAA isn't going to do ANYTHING regarding Kansas cheating.

Just sayin'.
Any chance that the NCAA would properly discipline Kansas, Arizona, Louisville and other rogue programs went out the window with covid. All the university athletic dept’s are so strapped for cash now that the NCAA isn’t going to make it worse. It’s like the old guy sent to prison who then gets his sentence suspended because his health is bad. Even Arizona’s 5 level 1 violations probably won’t result in much.

Of course in a few years these programs will have rebounded and will continue with shoe boxes full of cash to the parent or guardian and tweets from the Adidas guy offering to keep washing Self’s balls.....”Hall of Fame, I love you Hall of Fame, I won’t let you down next time Hall of Fame.”

The KU case is in the hands of the third party committee. The ncaa isn't really involved at this point. Just waiting for them to do something.
