My bad. I was trying to think of the two bad-*** RB's they had at the same time a few years ago and had RB on the brain. Jamal was one
He's struggling by going 7-5 in his first season with all of his own players...maybe we can do better, and who know's if Stoops is the guy...but he took over in a lousy situation and has made things better in Tucson...part of me thinks people would rather see a guy with an overall winning record, even if it meant starting 11-2 in his first couple seasons and slowly bringing them down to 6-6...

You are probably right with Tee Martin- he got them a NC, I heard this Manning guy can't win the big games.
Lewis is the only RB I can remember that has had a good pro career , but it seems like they always had a killer stable of backs.

I'm not seeing that in the article. The only Tucson source I see there is the Tucson Citizen (presumably a newspaper), and Stoops told them "no comment."
Here's another article with a lot more information. Arizona's AD hasn't even heard from Pollard. It also mentions "radio reports in Iowa." There's no way that could be anything other than KXNO, and we already know they're wrong (by Marty's own admission today).

Our situation is bad, if not worse. This is a very critical time right now. 2009 is an especially critical season. Fans are growing impatient. Facility upgrades need to be paid for. WBB, wrestling, volleyball and even MBB are not going to pay those bills. It's football - it's almost always football.
We can't get a guy that maybe will get us winning by 2012. ISU must have a guy that can win next season - endure 2010 and 2011 and who knows - do something crazy in those years.
I simply do not realistically see Stoops being that guy. He's basically a lame duck coach down there - if Arizona doesn't seem to want him - why should we?
This is the only guy I've been this vocal about not wanting and I do feel a bit bad for that. I just can't get excited about his resume...nor his personality.
But if he's our guy and ends up walking out of the smoking red ***** next week - I'll put all my support behind him.

I still don't believe it. The only source that any of these Arizona media outlets have cited is "Iowa radio station" reports, and that's got to be KXNO unless we all missed something. We all know what's been said on KXNO, so why is it all of a sudden a big deal if the AZ media are just regurgitating something they heard from a source which, in reality, doesn't seem to know what the hell is going on?
I agree that next year is big, and that football is what pays the bills...but whoever is named head coach is going to be winning and losing with DMac and Chizik's players...and our success next year or lack of success will be 80% because of the players on the field, not who is on the sidelines...who wouldn't want to just win now? It's not as simple as that, whether it's Lombardi or Rich Kotite coaching.

Stoops won't sell tickets...which is what JP needs. That and a guy that can coach. He needs both.

Talent at a few other places around the country was not great for first year coaches the last couple years. However, these guys walked in the door and won games right away.
The Big 12 North will be very average next year. I don't expect us to win the North, I mean, all of these teams beat us this year. However, we should be able to win some of those games.
I don't see Stoops as a guy that would come in here and win games right away.
IMO, Pollard knows he's got to get a guy that has a decent chance to do that.
I wanna win now, and I want us to hire the best coach out there...but to pin the success or lack of success for next year's team on whoever we hire doesn't make much sense...nearly every single player on the field will be a DMac or Chizik recruit...x's and o's make a difference, but only a game or two...we'll see just how good of a hire it was 3-5 years down the road when whoever we hire has his own players on the field.
Which is exactly why I do not think Stoops is the right guy. As some have pointed out, his main (only) draw is his name for recruiting, and his recruiting skills won't win next year, and maybe the year after that. So it WILL matter who is on the sidelines, because they can't just rely on who is on the field (like Stoops did at OK, and GC did at UT and AU). We need a coach first, you can "buy" recruiters.
Took over a downtrodden AU program and back in their first bowl in 10 years. Mentioned elsewhere only 18 points away from being 10-1. Took USC to the wire and a few other close ones. His recruiting classes make ours look even sillier. HC experience and training on someone else's dime...
