KSU: Minute by Minute

The 40 minute Nard breakdown.

BTW I too think this is an interesting way to recap the game. ISU seems like they have been streaky lately (more good than bad though).

It reminds me of these graphs that people use for baseball games:

Washington Nationals And WPA: What do those crazy post-game graphs mean? - Federal Baseball

What I like about them is how it graphically represents individual game events and how they lead to "runs" (not in the baseball sense, in the sense that the team pulls it together).

It would be neat to devise a way to represent this for basketball; I just have no idea what stats you'd use. Which, I guess, means that I'm too lazy/tired to do it right now.

So basically you can just look at the slope of the lines on the game flow graphs they make for games and see pretty much the same information, except you get an idea of the margin of dominance.

But really, the "minute by minute" thing is arbitrary. You should do the same thing except have overlapping pieces. For instance, start 1 minute intervals every 30 seconds. Then each 30 second interval will count in 2 different 1 minute intervals. The limit as you approach infinite number of intervals is basically the equivalent of the game flow graph.

:confused::wacko::baffled5wh:

Like I said in the OP, there is no new information here. Just a slightly different and interesting way of looking at things. But thanks for those who visited and decided to re-pass that information along.

How about Nard Alert?

Kinda like this:

If you could match it up with Fred's substitutions into the game (maybe a tracker of who was on the court during each minute), that would give another layer of interesting information. We know "qualitatively" that ISU curbstomped KSU in the second half of the first half, but looking at that chart gives it a "quantitative" aspect that people should appreciate.

That seems like an awful lot of work. I was kinda hoping this could be like me proving my fandom by putting in 5 minutes of work for completely useless information.

No, your creds are already there. I'm just spitballing on what some OTHER poster who wants to "make his bones" can do to take your analysis to the next level. You're like Einstein. Now we need to find an Oppenheimer to make your theory/invention into DA BOMB!

This is the first, and most likely last time I will ever have this sentence said about me.
