KJ gets contract extension

So for those of you not in favor, answer this for me. Rhoads has not doubled his win total from last year nor the year before but people are ecstatic about his huge extension. KJ literally has to start from scratch with his squad, they double there win total from last year and you dont like that Pollard gave him an extension and only a 2 year extension at that. I dont care that football brings in more money. Wrestling is by far harder to make a team of of solid core of wrestlers since they dont put near the amount of people out there that football can. A university hires someone to improve the program. KJ has done that and there should not be any arguement that a 2 year extension wasnt deserved.

If you don't understand the differences between ISU football and ISU wrestling there probably isn't much to discuss.

KJ may have had to "start from scratch" but it was after a season where he had us in the top 3. The iron should have been hot at the time but he failed to strike. Now, we've beat up on some bad competition later in the year and everyone is suddenly excited? We will send an couple of additional guys to NCAAs this year but most aren't going to do much if anything. This has been an incremental improvement at best.

The body of his work is poor. We should have been Top 10 by now, minimum. It isn't happening. This is not a good move for the program. Sad day. KJ is just not a good coach.

I just think it's a lot different situation. Personally, I think the right move was to give KJ and extension. I think though, in a lot of fans minds, ISU has always had a strong presence in college wrestling. So, even though the team was in bad shape after Cael left, it was still ISU. Football has never been at a point where we are trying to maintain a solid program or get back to our once great status. It's always been a struggle to have a winning program at ISU for football. So, to answer your question, I think that is the big difference. There is a hugee difference in where fans think each program should be and what is really considered success.

With two lost recruiting classes and an empty room behind those seniors. How hard is that to understand? We have 7 underclassmen in the lineup and our lone senior is a JuCo transfer that Jackson brought in. Mayfield and Beard are the only guys that had anything to do with Sanderson.

Do you have any made up rumors to start this year?

Really seems kind of silly to compare KJ to Rhoads. Yes, I am sure Rhoads could have doubled the win total had the FB gone in the crapper like wrestling did. And to say KJ had to start from scratch and imply Rhoads walked into a great situation after Chizik is just smh.

Be a KJ fan if you want, be happy for him and the wrestling program, but don't try to build him up by tearing down Rhoads.

At least we had improvement this year. The way JP was tweeting all year talking up the Wrestling program made me think he was keeping Jackson.

ISU does not have multiple national championships in football.

If you have to start a post by saying that you don't pay much attention to the wrestling program or that you are not familiar with collegiate wrestling, you don't have enough knowledge of the sport or the program to justify a post whether or not you agree with CKJ's contract extension.

I know that people are allowed their own opinion, but the program doesn't need the negativity from people that are completely incapable of making a knowledgeable judgement of the program's status.

Judoka, I usually am just a lurker on these boards and really appreciate all you have done for this site and our wrestling program. You have really lifted up the visibility on this site. You really do a good job of keeping everyone up to date on the wrestling program. Thank you for putting your 2 cents in on CKJ's contract extension.

Hopefully your input will quell the arguments of those that believe the below par status of our program is purely the fault of CKJ and not the fault of events that were out of his control and before his time at the helm.

I think the depth of the team is getting alot better. Next year, we had G Moreno(149), Larson(125), Bauer(133/141), Weatherspoon(157/165), Terukina (133/141,will come off redshirt), Doyle (184,will redshirt, but spent year at OTC).

So about every weight will have a couple capable guys competing for the starting spots.

I think now we need to up the recruiting a notch and we don't need to concentrate as hard on depth

I'm fine with it. The cupboard was basically bare when he got here. Looks like he's done some decent recruiting with his underclassmen really showing promise.

Iowa, Minnesota and PSU all have fewer seniors in their lineup than we do. We're embarassingly far behind those teams. The odds are slim to none that we will magically catch up anytime soon.

He's had his chance. His first recruiting class should have been good--he'd just finished 3rd at the NCAAs--good enough to put us squarely back in the Top 10. Look at us now. Not happening.

This is year 4. We are not good. Kevin Lickliter Jackson is not getting it done.

LOL give me a break. I have no faith things will improve to where they should be. Your expecations are lower than mine and too low, IMHO.

This coming from the guy that was spreading the rumor KJ was getting fired after the NCAAs last year. Oh and lets not forget the Ryak rumor that he was transferring to Minnesota after the NCAAs.

I came here asking if others had heard the same. They did not and the rumors were false--thankfully in the case of Ryak (I don't think it was Minnesota, however). I probably got trolled by my friends on that one.

That has nothing to do with my opinion of the job KJ has done (or not done).
