Kinnick-Slater Stadium?

Great Op-article:
“When Iowa State named the field at Cyclone Stadium after Jack Trice in 1975, they became the first Division 1-A university to name a football stadium after an African-American in 1997. Iowa State chose to honor their first African-American hero, why are we so shy to do the same?“

Here's the part I don't get...

"The proposal didn’t go over well. Rozendaal describes a stalemate between University President William Boyd and Gazette sports editor and columnist Gus Schrader. Boyd was for the dual name, Schrader against."

Why the hell did Red Peppers have any kind of say in the matter?

we need to start telling this story

Will be nice to be able to ask the mouth breathers of the fan base, "what time you heading to Slater Saturday"?

I just read this article from The Gazette. I had no clue that Kinnick Stadium was originally supposed to be named Kinnick-Slater Stadium, until Duke Slater’s name was removed in a compromise. What are everyone’s thoughts on renaming Kinnick?

Think it's a great idea because his name was kept off of the stadium for racist reasons initially. The state of Iowa would have the only two FBS stadiums named for Black men (of course, Iowa's would comes decades after ISU's and would be sharing the name with a white man).
