Keys To Beating The Hawks

It's better than you think. And will be especially against Iowa State. Iowa has been good at home in recent years. Look at last year. They only had 4 losses (2 of which were in their power slide at the end of the year). And they were close: 69-71 in OT to MSU, 69-76 to OSU, 74-79 to Wisconsin, and 63-66 to Illinois (bad).

Is it better than it used to be? Yes much better. I expect it to be loud against Iowa State, but that's because it is big game and it's a rivalry. I guess it's just that when I hear the term "hostile environment" Carver is not one that comes to mind.

Do we really need to derail the thread into another Fran vs CPR sword fighting match? That attempted comparison has been beaten to death and the differences are obvious to anyone with half a brain. Stay on topic Gunner.

Truth, only woody and gessell are allowed to sword fight in these parts.

What kind of self-respecting hok fan are you? IT'S NOT A RIVALRY! OR A PLAY-IN GAME!

BY FAR the biggest key is keeping Niang out of foul trouble. If he's on the bench most of the game, ISU cannot win. Outside of that, I would say stay in front of White and make him shoot over you. Aaron White bricks = runouts on the other end.

Their Schwartz is always getting twisted.

First biggest key is if Iowa has stickers on their court.

Second biggest key is if ISU is a worse basketball team than Iowa, ISU will likely win, per Aaron White's life philosophy.

i dont expect either backcourt to make a huge difference. this game will come down to very odd matchups in the front court. despite our shooting, iowa might even show some zone with white out front like they did vs UNC. woodbury has been pretty darn good as of late. between BDJ, georges, hogue, uthoff, white, and woodbury there are virtually no similarities between six of the starting players, yet they will all be matched up in some fashion.

Here we go again

I actually came here to post this exact thing. If ISU shows up and plays like they can, no way Iowa wins this game. Hawk fans can say whatever they like about match-ups and their bigs controlling the game, if ISU shows up and plays their game, the Hawks are in trouble. I think for Iowa to win this game, something from ISU is going to have to be off, mainly shooting.

Iowa doesn't have a guard who can hope to match up against ISU's starting shooting guard. I'd say that's a pretty big matchup issue in the back court. Morris also has anybody outmatched, he is a monster defensively compared to where he was the last time these teams played.

Not saying it's all one sided, ISU struggled with White last year and will again likely.

Just was listening to the Ames Trib Pod and Hines said he is hearing rumors that Iowa maybe planning on guarding Bryce with Gessel.

That. That would be a key to a ISU win if it comes true Friday. I have no idea why Fran would want to use that D matchup? Fred would just run the "Post BDJ play" on post over and over and over.
Though whom ever they try to put on BDJ is going to be at a advantage ISU. My guess it'll end up being Uthoff or maybe some White just for size reasons.

Are they trying to throw the game?
