Keys To Beating The Hawks

The Iowa game rarely plays out how it should. Last year in the first half Woodbury played like an All American basically hitting everything. The two biggest keys to this game IMO are Assists and Turnovers. If we have more than 18+ assists and under 8-9 TOs we win. Iowa will likely press a lot early.

we are a deeper team. I think the only players off the bench for Iowa are Jok, oglsby, Uhk and Olesani. Olesani is decent but that's it. Jok and oglsby are soooo streaky and are defesnive liabilities. One more thing and I'm sure Monte realizes this but Gessel only offensive game is driving as fast as he can to the right, every time. He never ever goes left, ever.

Patience and good passing on offense, hit the open shots

Force them to shoot the ball into the basket rather than shoot free throws

this is pretty much it. ISU can not have guys thinking they can take over the game, or make that one statement shot like they did against Maryland. They need to run when they can, and if not, move the ball around the key to get a good shot or an interior shot.

Also, they need the officials to call fouls on Iowa when they start hacking the crap out of whoever drives the lane. They hammered on Kane last year and only got called for a fraction of the fouls. Oh, and make your FTs.

I've learned from other posters on this board, that we need to key on Gesell and possibly not even play Morris as he doesn't have the head-to-head advantage with the little leprechaun.

Keep in mind this will be the first road game in what will be a pretty hostile environment. The veterans will be used to it but it will be new for Nader and BDJ. If we play the level of defense we did against Arkansas, I like our chances.

I don't think they press us. They will have 40 minutes of tape showing exactly why they shouldn't press.

Every time I've seen Iowa play, it seems like they get out to a fast start by turning teams over. I think a lot of teams are surprised by their length and athleticism. We need to avoid these.

If anyone goes for Aaron White's pump fake on the 3 pt. line and then fouls him as he drives by, they should be removed from the game :jimlad:

BDJ is a Senior. I would consider him a veteran. Granted it was UNLV but he's seen some hostile environments.

No jimlad necessary that is the truth.

I'll be interested to see if choose to shut Iowa's best player, Uthoff, down and let White get his again. Hoks are going to have a rude awakening when they realize we aren't going to shoot 30% against them and this game isn't going to be in the 50's and Old Roy isn't coaching the Cyclones.

Let's be honest... I'm as big of a Hawk fan as it gets, but in the grand scheme of things Carver isn't hostile at all. Maybe if Barta would get some brains and surround the court with the student section like Michigan State does. Instead he has a bunch of old big money donors golf clapping and only getting out of their seats to go empty their bladder.

It will be hostile for the #Superbowl. Fran has done as good, if not better job than Paul Rhoads in creating a delusional view of a program. hoks are mad again again.
