Keys To Beating The Hawks

Other than the obvious "we need to score more than Iowa" remark, this is a game with a very interesting matchup. We live and die by our shooting, so obviously that needs to be on. There is one key, however, that pops up into my head for beating Iowa:

Daniel Edozie. While Iowa is clearly a much bigger team in the paint than us, a guy like Edozie is huge for us. He draws fouls with the way he fights for rebounds and putbacks on offense. If he can get White, Woodbury, and that chipmunk looking fellow, Uthoff into foul trouble early, they won't stand a chance against us. I like him and Hogue being out there together because they will draw fouls on their big guys. Once their bigs get into trouble, it's not even close to who will win the guard play.

What do the rest of you think is the biggest key to winning in Friday other than the obvious, outscore the opponent remark?
 
Make them play our game. Don't settle into their slow down tactics. Never let the D get set.
 
Keep Aaron white from the ft line. Don't want him on fast breaks, otherwise he's spelled worthless.

That's the answer...play fast.

Although, I'm ok with Iowa getting a good play if it means Woodbury tries sword fighting a teammate. :-)
 
ISU has to keep it close rebounding and not let MG and/or Clemmons go off.

There is no how, no way iowa will get in foul trouble in that cesspool known as iowa city.
 
White did his damage in transition and the boards last year. Don't let him get easy transition opportunities and block him out off the glass and he will be much less of a factor.

It would be interesting to see what type or size of defender bothers White the most, because he has great games against us, but completely disappears in some games. My guess is someone like BDJ who is big enough to compete with him down low and fast enough to keep him from taking you off the dribble.

Not a bad idea. While I'm not sure how comfortable Bryce would be defending while consistently being posted up, if White is limited to playing with his back to the basket I have a feeling we have already won.
 
Don't let them make it an ugly game. Which may be hard given the faces of the Iowa team.

So your game plan is to try to get all 3 big guys for Iowa in foul trouble on their home court? You do realize Iowa has pretty much stayed out of foul trouble against big guys like Ridley for Texas and Meeks for UNC right? Both are bigger, stronger, and better than a guy like Edozie who comes off the bench.

I don't mind your theory at all, but you must admit it is a bit far-fetched.

I don't think Edozie is going to get too many people in foul trouble. A foul here and there but that's it. I think he needs to play well but I don't see him causing foul trouble. He's just not that kind of player and he doesn't get that many minutes...although he may need to. I think if he's playing a ton then we've had our hand forced. Not the recipe for victory.
 
transition defense and keep them off the offensive glass, in others words don't give up the easybuckets, iowa can struggle in half court offense. That also relates to our offense, if we shoot normal it gives a team less chances for transition offense. iowa will have to play zone, so we need to run our zone stuff and be able to knock down threes, iowa can not guard BDJ or Georges in man
