Kent State post game thread...

Shaggy will continue to be a liability, obviously.

The OL looks like it has more potential than the previous few years, but they need to clean up their penalties. Every time we started to gain momentum, they drew a flag.

Meyer is no better than an average QB.

Our WR's look pretty good, and Bass is a stud.

Our D looks horrible. DL is not good, LB's are fast but soft and missed a lot of tackles. DB's can make some plays, but got toasted a couple of times.

Shaggy............enough said.

Just out of curiousity...

It sounds like we played like sh!t tonight, but was Kent State any good? I know the MAC isn't a BCS conference or anything, but that doesn't mean that every team in there is total crap, which we found out tonight. Are they the type of team that will/could give other BCS teams fits?

Were the stands full tonight? Earlier I had heard there were a lot of empty seats. Was that BS?

Announced attendance of 47,000ish, and the corners were not empty from what I could see. I saw rows that were empty, and I'm assuming those are Hawk fans buying up season tickets for the season.

Too bad all of the towels ended up on the field. Those looked pretty cool, especially from the students side of it.

wow, is all i can say. i must admit i was actually thinking that isu was gonna surprise teams this yr. i can honestly say this was one of the ugliest games ive seen and my hope for this yrs team has been greatly shaken. how the heck does freakn kent state even play a close game with us, much less beat us.

But the glimmers of hope were exciting, and I can't wait for the next few years. I just wish we could beat Kent St during out rebuilding.

I had two gripes with playcalling. We ran on 2nd and 15 on the first or second possession and got like nothing, and then we ran on 3rd and 7 to set up a 46 yard field goal for Culbertson to miss. What the hell?

Bass is good. Meyer was not. Defense is going to get pushed around all year.

...in Ames!

Meyer can be a very good quarterback when he runs with purpose and he sets his feet and uses proper mechanics. It's when he is tentative with his pass/run decisions and when he has poor mechanics (dropping the elbow and/or throwing off his back foot) is when he gets into trouble. Sure his release is a little slow but we are not talking the NFL here. The kid is a senior and is learning a knew offense.

We suck. Are ya kiddin me? Kent State? Im a diehard and I cant admt to this bs. Nice coaching. Even if we suck. we shouldnt lose to Kent friggen state

I've been an Iowa State fan for far too long for yet another disappointing loss eat me completely up.

I keep telling myself that, do you think it'll work?

I said this about Toledo last year, but I still think Kent State's in for a major year. It's Kent State, but it's not the Kent State that Iowa hammered a few years back.

One thing I forgot to address:

People who are acting all happy after a loss like that as we're leaving the stadium are lucky not to be hit in the face.

The stadium atmosphere honestly completely sucked. When Kent State scored their 1st touchdown, I don't think the student section every got going at all.

I wasn't proud to be in the student section, I think we have a long way to go before we even become an average student section. It wasn't loud at all.

I guess it is all good, all that matters is the Iowa game . . . .

Not happy about the game at all, obviously. Defense looked soft, and other than Bass the offense was non existent.

BUT!

This is Chizik's first game. This loss hurts, but a part of me expected it as well. The pain I'm feeling right now is nowhere near the level of the '04 Missouri game and '05 Kansas game. I still have a lot of hope for the future. Everyone knew there were going to be a lot of growing pains with this team. A lot of people need to back away from the ledge and watch this team make strides throughout the year.

Before the game people were wondering if we would be overconfident for our next game after blowing out Kent State. Now the concern is whether the team will win a single game this season. What a turn around after just one game.

Random thoughts...

CloneZone worked great...no bandwidth problems at all for me...

I didn't like the body language of the offense at all in the second half. They didn't look crisp breaking huddles, kind of meandering up to the line. Almost like they gave up after they got behind...

Defense got pushed around a bit, but came up with some big plays.

Should Meyer not step it up, he won't be starting come Big 12 time...

ISU can not leave points on the field in the kicking game. College kickers are becoming automatic at the 45 yd FG. There may be a kicking tryout coming up...

JTS looked and sounded dead on CloneZone.

Players should expect a few days of Hell during practice next week...

One more thing...college FB belongs on Saturday...
