Keep Coach Greg McDermott

McD is lucky he is Iowan. We don't tolerate losing at Iowa State University. Unless it's by an Iowan.

I hate to say it, but I think Greg's days are numbered. I really believed he was the one to run this program when he was hired, and even into the first few years. But, it's looking more and more like he's in over his head. I don't see anyway that next year is better, with the loss of our top two scorers/rebounders almost imminent.

It's almost getting to the point that it was at the end of Morgan's last season. May as well cut our losses and move on before the inevitable tail spin occurs. And this has nothing to do with tonight's performance. It has to do with all of the rest of the games that we were within striking distance at the end, only to fall apart...

Sorry to inform everyone but, APATHY has set in for me. I really don't care anymore about the basketball program. Will I still root for them???? Ya probably, however, when I find myself not even looking at the schedule anymore because I don't want to know who the next loss is coming to.....nevermind......it's just hard to get excited anymore........when exactly does football season begin again?

I get this nagging feeling that the vocal part of our fan base that is tearing McDermott apart will be doing the same to the next coach three years from now.

Just wait and see what happens if Rhoads only wins 3 or 4 games the next couple years (easily could happen) becasue the schedule is crazy. I guarantee people will be calling for his head as well, and when it is pointed out they play the hardest schedule in the country the response will be "I'm tired of excuses, this team has no heart, PR has had three years and he won a crappy bowl with Chizik players."

Still finding it hard to believe that everyone is melting down over this one. Missouri is a really good team, and we took them completely out of their game. This game is disappointing, but in comparison to others, not nearly as much because our defense helped well, and kept us in the game. If shots were falling, this would have been a win. We have been getting beat even when the shots were falling, so I think this is a step forward. But carry on...

We still LOST. We've BEEN losing, and we KEEP losing. We've been losing for 4 straight years, and there are no signs indicating that it's going to change.

There are no moral victories. This entire season was a step back. The only thing that can save it is 4 straight wins in Kansas City.

Really??? And how long do you plan on telling yourself this?? Face it, we have the talent to win games, their just lacking proper leadership and coaching!!

Has anyone actually considered that maybe we don't have the talent we thought we had? 2 above average players, a poor PG, and some 1st year players. Maybe our team's talent is a bit over-estimated.

Debatable...One thing for sure, we have half the team we started with.

We have tolerated losing at Iowa State University for nearly the entire existence of our athletics programs.

I think if you were really apathetic, you wouldn't be posting about it everyday on the internet.

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm already dizy from the tail spin that we are in.

Kind of sad to say but I knew that the highlight of ISU sports for me today was going to be reading all of the hate mail to GMac from this loss.

We have seen lesser talent play better together and still win games. Iowa did it last night and Northwestern did it against us. UNI does it quite often and even Drake has learned how to do it.

Missouri shoots like crap and we outdo them. Only because they were clunking up shots were the reason we were still in the game. Colvin looked good forcing the issue. He just needs to be able to shoot. DG had good moments when he shot, he just needs to hit more baskets. SC had some open shots, he just needs to make them. You get the picture.

We could have won only this time we could not hit the broad side of a barn.

We looked Luccaless last night.

Another member of the "I don't care about ISU basketball anymore, but I'm going to keep posting about it and ******** about the team". Ironic.

And I'm sure that you are such a diehard football fan also, but I'm willing to bet if we only win 4 games next year-you will claim apathy has set in for football also.

Such diehard cyclone fans you apathy guys are......

We are now getting the effort, the younger guys are pulling more weight, but the MIA (defections, injuries, red shirts, family issues, disciplinary actions) players for one reason or another is lowering our team potential. We have one month of this left. I hope we win more than one game. If not, I hope we play hard in the remainder.

McD definitely needs to fix the PG problem.

We need a combo PG of best abilities of DG/CC/Buckley that has shooting ability. If we cannot hit the 10 footer, the teardrop, layups, perimeter shot, we allow the defense to pack it in on CB/Ham/Strap/Dendy. Maybe our guards better practice more shooting this summer in their new facility.

Yup. It's the reason why in the conference games ISU misses jump shots, misses layups, makes "silly" turnovers, etc. The athletic ability of the Big 12 makes everything difficult. There is constant physical and emotional pressure, which doesn't exist when playing the likes of NW Piney Woods College. Even though it may look easy on TV, there are no easy deals in the Big 12, except for perhaps a break-away layup.

In order to "finish" under those conditions, one needs to have athletic ability and talent equivalent to those generating the pressure. ISU simply does not have that up and down the lineup, and hasn't since McDermott has been coach.

We sure could have used him. Three or four three's from him and the game would have been totally different.
You could say the same thing about the KSU game. We went 1 for 15(?) before the last 3 or 4 minutes of the game.

For me, I want to see how this season ends before I make a decision on McDermott. After Saturday, we have 5 straight games that are very winnable. In these games, If we win at least 2 or 3 of them, he should come back. If we finish with less than two more wins, then it's going to be difficult for me to support McDermott as our coach next year.

I would like to remind you all that our home conference games have been brutal to this point. Let's see how they play at home against non-top ten teams before we decide McDermott's fate one way or another.
