Kansas Sucks.

If you take a poll of Big 12 fans asking does Kansas get favorable calls I would guarantee it is at least over 50% saying they do.

My guess would be 70%

Oh, that's a great idea.Maybe you can ask Michigan fans if they think Ohio State cheats in football recruiting. The answers would be just as unbiased. Good grief.

I don't think officials intentionally favor KU, UNC, Duke, Kentucky, or any other team. It is plausible that they unconsciously favor those teams, but I think the star power effect is overrated if it exists at all. Sometimes officials just make terrible calls. Remember the 1985 World Series? The Cardinals got screwed, but the Royals didn't get that call because of star power. However, if the Yankees had gotten such a call, I imagine some people would have argued it was because they are the Yankees.

Clearly, Johnson charged on that play last year. But we don't see the play from the eyes of the officials; we see it from the eyes of the camera. It looked to me like neither of the refs had a good, unobstructed view of the play, and each of them were relying on the other to make the call... thus no whistle. But this doesn't excuse it because they should have been in position to see the play clearly and make the right call.

I don't think that the KU fanbase is any different than the ISU fan base. Every fan base has whiners. But I don't think that the entire KU fan base agreed with Mangino that the officials purposefully favored Texas, nor do I think that the entire ISU fan base thinks that the officials purposefully favored KU last year.

My general feel is that refs favor the more AGGRESSIVE teams. Teams that are more aggressive on defense "get away with" more fouls because they foul more often and can't possibly have them all called. Look at Aaron Craft "the greatest on-ball defender ever" according to all the talking heads. There are games where he should be charged with aggravated assault. He unleashes a constant barrage of hand fouls and gets away with murder. Missouri rode this theory when Mike Anderson was there. It wasn't "40 minutes of hell", it was "40 minutes of getting fouled without a whistle".

When teams constantly attack the rim, they are going to get the benefit of the doubt because the refs are used to what they are seeing. When teams rely on shooting from the outside more, it stands out when they drive to the rim and the refs notice more about it.

And I agree, not all fans agreed with Mangino. I hated the guy. It's not a surprise that a fat slob with no self control ended up coaching a team that had no self control. Look at Pelini at Nebraska. No self control. Team = no self control. Jim Schwartz at Detroit? Same problem.

Fans of teams going against a traditional power just ASSUME that they didn't get the calls because of who the opponent was. I assume there were some calls in the ISU/OU game that were "bad calls" but people weren't coming up with crazy conspiracy theories as to why the refs were favoring OU. Fans actually identified that their team had some tangible mistakes that they needed to improve on to get a win. Why is it that ISU simply made mistakes to lose against a pretty good OU team but must have been the unwitting victims of a screw job to lose against a much better KU team?

Thank you. Once again I totally agree with you.

I'm a Braves fan and still remember that call at first by Don Denkinger even though i had no rooting interest in either team. The Cards got hosed on that call.

Anyway... I think we are on the same page.

I'm not arguing at all about our losses to OU or you guys this year. I've been pretty consistent in saying that there is no conspiracy.

Your reference to Craft is pretty spot on though. This is a funny link from our Hawkeye friends.

KU has played Ohio State three times in the last two years and that little turd should have a restraining order on him he was so completely all over the KU players. It's a miracle that Self made it out of the games with his wallet, watch and hairpiece intact...

News flash --> Some Kentucky fans are blaming their loss to Arkansas on getting screwed by the REFS. Apparantly one of the refs is a graduate of Louisville and "has it in" for UK. At least you guys aren't the only crazy conspiracy theorists...
