Kane's Ankle

I get that players can play at 80% and we need his leadership ,etc. But his game is his penetration in which he scores, gets fouled, or creates that dish to an open guy in space. How can he be effective penetrating at 80%. Not even mentioning that he's usually getting a much needed 8-9 rebounds a night for us. Ugh.

Kane has never relied on his speed or cutting quickness for penetration, rather he uses rhythm and spacing to his advantage. I think he can still be effective but will certainly need to modify his game tonight, depending on severity of the sprain.

Side note... Many people who played injured while in high school or college sports can attest to the ability to play with pain to the point of forgetting you have an injury. I ran 2 seconds off of my PR my senior year in the 2-mile at state championships long long ago with a severely sprained ankle I couldn't even walk on the next day. A teammate of mine in college ran a 1:50 800m on a shredded achilles at our Conference championships

I'm not advocating Kane plays to the point of aggravating his injury, I'm just saying it's very possible he can be nearly as effective as usual.

True dat. Sprained my ankle very badly in a loss at Bettendorf Friday night, came back the next night and played one of my best games ever in a win over #1 Muscatine. Had the jump hook going great that night. I know, 1990, Glory Days, and all that, but still-- it's amazing what you can do when the adrenaline takes over and the pain fades away.

Of course, once the game is over and things are back to normal, you realize how stupid you were when the pain kicks back in worse than when you first injured it.

I really hope Kane is at least able to give it shot because that would give the crowd a huge buzz seeing him come out there. Hearing from Jon Rothstein that he's playing doesn't mean a whole lot to me because he could easily get out there and come right back out with an injury like that.

Which will be nice that he will have 5 days to recover on.
