As someone who used to work in journalism, I can attest that this happens all the time. In college, I wrote an article about a football player who was arrested for sexual assault on campus. The dude sent me threatening emails on the regular, to the point where I needed an escort between buildings for a few months. Later in my career, I worked in a small town newspaper and we published the police reports weekly. I got so many nasty grams about how I was ruining someone's life. Well, then don't get arrested.
Exactly. This wasn't a quick "credit card" move or a "ball tap" type of horseplay... (And even those are not ok if the person receiving isn't on with it, etc).
I don't have all the facts.....BUT, a guilty plea to me is good enough...no reward for "admitting"
From a school perspective, honestly, how can they discipline ANY kid moving forward as this handling would be the first thing anyone with a consequence would likely being up (for school activities, anyway)
Exactly..kid gets caught with a heater or throwing a lipper in. They get to use the card of well atleast I didn't sexually assault anyone so I'll keep on playing my sport. As a school with the action or should say lack of action they have taken how can you look at that kid in the eye and say well you're out for x amount of time.
Even if those in the school district are remaining silent due to potential lawsuits, this an example of actions being louder than any words could say. This perpetrator being allowed to wrestle is speaking volumes by the school district.
The whole thing I've been wondering about lawsuits is, isn't the school covered in those situations as far as funds to cover things like that? Then if you go further say on a personal lawsuit...what the hell look is that from Kade's family? Okay so they do file a lawsuit go to court let it play out whoever they are suing I would 100% guarantee would have all expenses paid.
I wonder if pleading guilty to it in juvi, helped keep his record clean but does it open the parents up for a lawsuit. The victims parents can sue for damages and that could be a chunk.
Are they the only ones covering it or is it some false hope they wouldn’t because Eric Hanson went to RS?
To the victim and your family: I’m livid that this terrible act was put upon you and only one person on the school board had the guts to stand up for you. I am so sorry. This lack of action tells others that what that troubled guy did to you was apparently OK with them. It wasn’t, it just didn’t happen to one of their kids. He is a predator and at some point he will be held accountable for his actions. All parents and students should stand behind you and stand up for you and your family. I am. He should not be allowed to touch anyone ever in any kind of sport situation. Mothers and Fathers hide your daughters! “If you don’t object loudly to the predators actions you condone it”
You mean the same wrestlers that did nothing to stop the assault?
Great post the one thing I would add is Mothers and Fathers hide your kids beings this happened to another male student.
I seen that there was another person involved but did not know he was a wrestler also. This is such a freaked up situation.
Oh, I guess I can’t remember is he was or wasn’t a wrestler. May have assumed there.
I will say that about half the kids on the team were not on it last year.
