Just got back from Ames BB Game

I couldn't disagree more with the lazy/lackadaisical comments. I went to the game tonight and that was the fourth time seeing the team this year. What I see is a guy that plays within the team system, doesn't force things, plays tough D (shoots the gap a lot and is tough in the Ames trapping/pressing style with his long arms) and goes after rebounds hard.

Look, there's no doubt the kid could take the ball to the rack each and every time he touches it, probably get fouled or score and average 40 a game. But do you think that would help the team? They are smokin' right now and it's not just because of Barnes. McDermott is very, very solid fundamentally, can hit the pop out 3 and doesn't seem to miss from inside 5 feet. The kid that may be the most fun to watch for me is Weber, the little guard. He is great with the basketball in his hands, has no problem taking it to the hole and his 3-point shooting is probably the best part of his game.

Part of the reason Barnes may seem to some as being lazy is because he is so smooth in the way he moves around the floor...everything seems so effortless, especially against high school talent. But believe me, the kid is not lazy playing the game. At least, not in my eyes.

final42b is palo going to play d-1 or somewhere else just curios

I havent talked to him for awhile so i dont really know. He plays for the attack so he gets good exposure there. But i def think he should he is very athletic and can drive on anyone. He would be a nice get for a lot of teams. He is just as good as Jesse Pritchard who is going to Yale.

Boo will have options. While he is very good at basketball he is very very good at soccer. He does already have soccer offers somewhere but I am not sure where. He plays on an elite team out of DSM. Weber too will have some D1 offers but not sure how high. Good shooter, great defender but his size will hold him back. Pritchard to Yale, McDermott already with 3 low D1 offers but will be much higher next year, and Kohler just got an ISU football offer this week but could be better at baseball. In summary, top 6 kids will definitely play D1 athletics while 2-3 more on AHS team could play basketball beyond HS, Stuve probably low D1 with Rodgers and Wandling needing to develop next year as srs but the talent is there.

Vince Carter never really scored a whole lot in high school either. His team was loaded and his average line would be about 22 pts, 10 boards and 8 assists a game. Of course a few of those would be trademark dunks... On the flip side, I also played against Daunte Culpepper and he used to drop 40 with ease...

Dougie McDermott is on Fire......7 of 7 last game....6 for 6 this game.....He also has some three's mixed in......

If he hits the weights, he will be a force with lots of potential.....

Just out of curiousity from seeing the way Ames has just been destroying everyone this year...did anyone go to the Dowling-Ames game? Were the shots just not dropping for Ames, or did Dowling play out of their minds or what? It's a little odd seeing routs over Marshalltown, Urbandale, and Cedar Falls and only a 2 point win over Dowling.

Hopefully he just left his seat early and stood on the concourse for the last 5 minutes. That way he'd get to see the game but still be one of the first ones to his car!

Maybe he snuck down to the Ames locker room to wait for an autograph.

They beat Valley by 58.

Ames coach said his offense is exploding. How big is he?

When they played Dowling 3 kids were sicker than dogs. They will crush them if they play them again. As far as Doug M he will be a great one for Iowa State. He's very smooth player with high iq. He uses his left hand very well. If he puts on 40 pounds and muscle he will start for ISU by his sophomore season. We will love him at ISU

What grade is he in?

McDermott, Barnes and Weber are all juniors. Team should be as good or better next year. AHS will have two of the top 5 in the state next year (HB and Doug McD).

Maybe walk-on is not out of the question. Dad is making plenty of money.
