I think they are loading it now, but they have been loading for about an hour. It appears they keep scooting the trailer further south. It’s hard to tell because most of the action is hidden behind the scoreboard.

I was wondering why that heavy crane just sat there so long, when I figured there was a good chance it was a rental.

Then I realized what today is, and that it must have been a monthly, rather than daily—if it was a rental.

Anyone can feel free to correct my wild assumptions.

They were waiting on the ******* electricians like everyone else .

I did see some of those dump trucks needing several attempts to get up the hill. I can’t imagine doing that with a sloshing load full of cement. They did do some additional work on the hill, so it may be better now. You have to admit it would make interesting viewing!

Could be a rental. Even with monthly rentals I've gotten rid of equipment early. Less chance of it getting damaged while on site (even just sitting around).

Could be they were just waiting until the next job was ready for it and the GC was cool with it sitting around for a little bit.

Could be they were waiting for the heavy haul rig to be available.

Could be somebody forgot to schedule the trucks and crew to come take it apart.

Way to many variables. I've had a drilling subcontractor mobilize in and assemble a drill rig (over the course of 2 days) sit for a day, not drill a single hole with the thing, and then tear it down and send it to a different job the end of the same week it arrived. They also had the balls to audacity to try and claim it as a crane mobilization and bill us for it (which we basically told them they were idiots for and they had a less than 0% chance of getting paid for)

I am remembering someone around here saying that when the Stadium was built, they built up all the earthworks—then let the soil of the hills sit for a year to settle, before beginning the actual construction.

I’m taking a wild guess that’s not a concern with these hillsides 46 or 47 years later.

That is absolutely wrong about letting the soil settle. The contractor (Huber Hunt and Nichols) started moving the dirt in the fall of 1973 and continued building the berms 24/7 throughout the winter in hopes that frost would not get in the soil. The desire was to open the stadium in the fall of 1974 and thus flood lights were used to enable the night work: I witnessed this exiting Hilton Coliseum after BB games.

In the spring of 1974 after the concrete was poured for the lower seats on both sides and the footings were poured for the balcony, settling was discovered on the east balcony footings. Rather than tear out the footings, a steel piece was added to the top of each footing to raise it one foot and to move the finished top away from the field by one foot. Often I snuck into the future Cyclone Stadium and eventually took pictures of these modified footings.

That construction delay caused a one year delay in opening the stadium to 1975.

Concrete is definitely more sloshy.

Concrete is definitely more sloshy.

Neat cement can get rather sloshy depending on how much water you use.

(But also not a good replacement for concrete in a retaining wall)

Your post had me doing a quick google search. Cement mixers do sound disgusting. Great ingredients: Bailey’s Cream and lime juice. But the combo equals curdled cream……yuck!

I may have been to Cy’s Roost. I was in a bar in that general area in the 80’s.
