JTS construction webcam?

Wish they would do that for more games. I don't remember when/if they ever provided t-shirts to the fans to make it a cardinal day or gold day.

They did for students I know, I still have a few gold and red ones with cheesy slogans. I think "BBQ Texas" might have been one slogan used. Don't know if they gave out shirts to everyone though.

Must . . . check . . . JTS construction thread.

Damn, that's looking sexy. Maybe an expansion of the jake and some patio space in the north end zone and we would be rocking.

Really looks great. One thing that is painfully obvious, however, is how tiny the press box looks. I know, I know, that is just the way it is. It does look almost comically small compared to the rest of the stadium from this viewpoint.

It doesn't seem any worse in person than before. I have been to the stadium many times and drive by every day, but never find myself thinking that the press box seems smaller.

The big visual impacts are, of course, the south endzone (both from outside and inside), but also the north entrance (from outside). The view from Center Drive up by Hilton is awesome. Instead of just seeing the back of the north videoboard, you now see tons of upper corner seats in the south endzone. It is a dramatic difference.

I would love for us to triple the space by adding a press / suite tower on either side of the existing tower. I know the whole challenge is how the supports for the towers impact the lower suites, walkways, and other buildings below.

Stuff two posts deep into the ground and then just hang the new press box from the parts that stick up. Let the media just blow in the breeze!

Its a shame they built it more vertical than horizontal. If it was the same size but stretched out more, I don't think it would seem so bad.

Then again the actual functionality of the it is better as it goes up higher, so it's hard to blame them.

Agreed. There are some interior space issues, but it's going to take a lengthy waiting list of suite interest (or someone with another $25M+ check) before anything significant is done. JP isn't going to make it 400% bigger just because it'll look nice. Function over flash.

I remember somebody from the press saying it was severely overcrowded and outdated 10+ years ago. It obviously hasn't gotten better since then. And I'm just talking the actual press facilities portion of it. If they just removed a good chunk of the suites and rededicated that to the press, and then either built a single layer of suites next to the press box on either side or in between the decks on the east side, I think that would be reasonably cost effective.

I've never gotten caught up in the aesthetics of the press box--who cares? And has been mentioned repeatedly, if the jack trice club and suites in between the lower and upper deck were placed on top of the upper decks, it would look infinitely more impressive, while actually delivering an inferior product with worse views.

With internet advancements, more games on TV, general cutbacks in the media industry, and schools becoming their own media outlets (e.g. CyTV), there are fewer traditional media actually attending games.

Television and radio booths definitely need more space just for their equipment. The writers have plenty of room. Some of the operations folks would benefit from more space, but it's not really a pressing need.

Rather than redo the press box on the west side, could you just put a monstrous new building where the Jake is now? Like a 10 story tower or something. And then put both FB offices etc as well as some/all press box functions in there?

Or is that just a horrible idea? Assuming you could make it look good aesthetically, would having the press folks in the end zone be bad?

Just spitballing.

You would still need TV cameras on the west so it might be difficult to tie those aesthetically keeping the box.

But the idea is intriguing. Could you potentially also offer student athlete housing on top levels? There are bus routes right there and it has plenty of parking nearby. I feel like recruits would commit on the spot at the sight of something like that. Do any other stadiums in the nation have something already like that?

Could you also potentially add parking to it like a parking ramp for even more tailgate space? Maybe it could be high donor and staff lots?

Jacobson Bldg. is probably off-limits until Mr. Jacobson is either dead or consents to demolish it. His donation facilitated the first major upgrade in the stadium's history.

The football offices have no reason to be moved again.

Calling a game from the end zone is impossible. Media hate bowl games in baseball stadiums, because the layout of the football field normally means the standard baseball press box ends up with an end zone or corner vantage point. Baseball stadiums usually don't have an auxiliary press area along what would be the sideline. It makes for a really bad angle, especially with depth perception. Can't get a good idea of yard lines or players involved.

Seems to me it would just be easier to widen the Press Box and expand it that way on both ends?

I think the next obvious renovation will be adding suites to the east side between decks to mirror the west; this would free up room in the existing press box. But this won't happen until there is a demand for more suites.

I thought that suites had been added between the east decks several years ago. Am I mistaken?
