JTS construction webcam?

No, they design the BIDS so only companies get awarded bids. Its a dirty little secret of public sector procurement.

True. I work in an unrelated industry where the federal gvmt is a large customer, and a constant theme is "how can we influence the RFP to include requirements that only our company can meet?" Goal of course, is to improve chances to win the deal later on. But you still have to convince someone that your special thing is worth making a requirement.

Lowest bidder does not equal best provider...part of writing the bid includes adding in specific requirements that will help in weeding out the low-ballers.

Not to mention the change order artists. There are unscrupulous firms out there that low ball the bid and then smack you with change order after change order for every little thing they can come up with to build their margin that should have been in their bid. I hate those guys. Despite your best efforts you end up paying more than you would have for another bid that wasn't low at the bid opening.

As a young Civil Engineer, I had this happen with a ****** eastern Iowa contractor, who shall remain nameless. I did not put restoration explicitly on the plans/in the specs, and they skirted it. I realize now that everything they can get away with, they will. That was a hard lesson to learn right out of school.

The best plan always is to CYA on every little detail. The biggest problem I come across is engineers not reading their specs.

Definitely. Lesson learned on that one. I was pretty green at that point, but it really taught me that concept well. If you can put yourself in the mind of a contractor and try to find ways to cheat your specs to save money, you'll be able to CYA well.

Can anyone tell me why I am unable to see the live feed on my Samsung android? I can see the archived photos, just no live video. Thanks

I'm surprised there have been several bid packages with only a lone bidder. Especially structural steel you'd think US Erectors, Steel Erectors of Iowa, and others would want to get in on the erection bid.

The problem is there are very tight windows in which things must be done in and everything needs to be exactly correct the first time. There is no time to have something changed or re-made if it is not correct and because of this the specs are very precise. This is what the guy I know in charge of scheduling everything told me.

As for Weitz always being the Construction Manager it is no different than the WDM School District always having Weitz as the Construction Manager, they know what they are getting with them and they know it will be done correctly and on time.

In my more selfish moments, I hope for a delay so that I will get another year with my endzone seats.

Here's a great youtube video of the activity that is progressing onsite right now. It will probably be hard to tell from the camera but there will be "clusters" of these piers that will get a concrete footing poured on top of these that will integrate the reinforcing of the auger cast pier with the reinforcing of the column footing. The concrete pier will be poured on top of this footing to support the structural steel column.

That's the one thing that is sad about the SEZ. I have several friends who sit there as families because it's affordable (like our corner balcony seats in MBB). They likely won't be able to afford to bring the kids any more. :(

JTS is gaining 4,200 seats, not losing 4,200 seats.

Yes, I understand that. The current endzone bleacher seats are very cheap. People with kids would sit there; often the kids got in free through jr cyclone club, and the parents would rotate back & forth between bleachers & hillside. It's my understanding that the bleachers & hillsides will be gone, and the seating prices will change accordingly. Sitting in cheap seats next to the jr cyclone hotspot will no longer be an easy option. This is why I said they would likely not be able to bring the kids any more, because they won't be able to afford it any more, not because there wouldn't be enough seats to go around.

I bet price point doesn't change much for some of the seats further away from the field. And there will still be north hillsides. They could simply sell those to only JCC members + parents/guardians.

Yea the upper corners of the endzone will probably be pretty cheap
