JP's next big hire

I agree, I think there are plenty of good coaches that would like to earn 2 million or more per year at a place in the Big 12 with really good facilities, fans, etc.

However, I will be completely shocked if Rhoads isn't our head coach next year. I'm not saying he should, but I will be shocked if JP lets him go.

I just cant see Jamie letting Roads go without being threatened with dismissal by Pres Leath.......Anything short of that and good ol' boy Paul Rhoads will be back next season

3 win season. Next year, we will have Paul shoot for four wins although I do not expect to win in IC with the 2016 Playoff Candidate.

Hope to sell 30k in season tickets to the cyclone faithful for a seven game package. JP will have tons of Applebee mini oacks for sale.

Pales in comparison to the cost of keeping him.

Senior day today and we had 7,000 empty seats. Next year, we'll consider that a good crowd. Especially since we have Iowa on the road next year.

When those 7000 seats typically sell for $15/ticket, the math does not work out.

And to the guy who says we have the $4.5 million regardless of what JP says, yeah I'm sure we do. Then we just only have about $800K to pay for the next coach. Hopefully, there are some good FCS candidates looking to get a $200K increase in pay.

I'm with clonedude. I will be absolutely shocked if Rhoads is fired. I think it would take Leath firing Pollard first.

You're right. We keep going to the games anyway. And none of us are lifelong fans because of our winning tradition. We love our school. That must be what they're banking on in the retention of CPR. Otherwise, any objective, performance-based analysis points to hiring a new coach. And JP has proven that he can find a coach.

I don't know what we need anymore. I've been against another defensive coach because our last 3 HCs have been that and our defenses have been bad mostly. Then again I'm seeing teams in the top 15 that are winning because they play solid hard nosed defense with talent. I vote for Kevin Kelly HS coach in Arkansas. Dude has done same crazy stuff and wins...wins...and wins. What the heck..why not.

I'm with you on the no more d-coordinator hires and have been since the Donnie Duncan mistake. You mentioned Arkansas and if we are looking for a new coach in a couple of weeks I would go hard after Dan Enos, o-coordinator at Arkansas. He's got good head coaching experience, plenty of play calling experience, and is a former qb himself. I think he would be great at developing qb's and good offenses.

Last time I looked we have two games left and a chance to get five wins. We are a better team with Lanning at QB and games against KSU and WVU will give a true indicator if CPR has ISU on the right path. I have been consistent up to this point CPR nedds to win 5 to keep his job. Last nights loss was painful, but I like what I've seen against Texas and OSU. I like it enough that if we can win one game and close in the other, I am now leaning that CPR should be given another year. I like our returning players and our recruiting class seems solid.

I'll happily pay-off CPR...

Well, I guess if Rhoads is back next year we know that your check didn't clear.

But seriously people, how many less tickets are really going to get sold. Come spring when those renewals go out everyone will be excited for another season of tailgating and mediocre football.

I can't watch anymore. I was so ****** on Saturday evening that I wasted my whole afternoon watching that game. What a waste of 3 1/2 hours I can't get back.

Dino Babers is listed as a possibility in this article. And since it was written Mizzou has a job opening as well as other teams.

You have to scroll way down in the article to find Iowa State.........listed as a Bottom Tier Job.

Interesting read, even though I think he is underestimating the ISU job and maybe isn't aware of just how nice our facilities are right now and what a loyal and enthusiastic fan base we have. The high pay and low expectations also would make our job more desirable imo. I don't know if we'll be looking for a new coach in 2 weeks or not, but 2 more losses and I have to believe we will be. One more win and I think it's 50-50. I do like that Dan Enos isn't listed on any of the lists and if we are looking for a coach maybe he is an under the radar guy that would be what we are looking for.

Our pay is extremely low for a Power 5 Conference Head Coaching Job. Our facilities are nicer than they were but our Conference foes have also made substantial improvements. K-State is doing a massive expansion of facilities. Baylor has a new stadium.

Sounds to me like there are not low expectations from the chatter on these boards. Iowa State plays the toughest schedule in the nation and the fans expect winning seasons and Bowl games.

Dan Enos does not excite me at all. Not interested. He sucked at Central Michigan.

True he started out slow but ended up better, splitting a couple of bowl games, and he's having some success as o-coordinator in the SEC, which is pretty impressive. Not saying he's the guy but we aren't going to get the cream of the crop of candidates. And yes, at ISU a 500 record and occasional bowl game will make fans happy. Unfortunately CPR has been no where near that in the last few years. And I've done a lot of bragging about the Big 12 to my hawkeye friends the last couple of years only to take it back after the bowl season, so until we do better in the bowls I'm not convinced the Big 12 is what we'd like to think it is. We thought we had the toughest schedule in the nation last year too until we laid another egg in the bowl games, and they all we had was excuses.

Old Article, but still relevant. I would take a MAC HC I guess, just no re treads ie Houston Nutt. But I will have to be convinced that all those mentioned are upgrades over CPR.

If we let go of CPR I would like to look at Tony Alford, or even Lou Ayeni.

Arkansas should have done much better this year. Dan Enos does not excite me at all. NONE. There is a reason he resigned and went back to being an Assistant Coach again. Go for a guy like Doc Holliday or Dino Babers or some other decent head coach.

Exactly. Compare us to ten years ago and isu is much more attractive but other schools have made improvement better than ours and doesn't have to recruit to Ames. This is still one of the toughest places to coach in the country. There is a reason why so many of our assistant coaches go on to better things like national titles after leaving. Trail by fire. If anyone could pull it off in Ames it would be leach. Pullman might be one of the few spots that may be as hard or harding to win at as Ames.

Also if JP wanted to he could do the buyout. He would find the money even if he has to beg for it. If rhoads stays its cause JP still believes in him at some level. I for one thinks he will stay. Team has improved. A sound beating of Texas, a bad loss to a team we haven't beat in decades and leading the 8th rank and only undefeated team in the conference in the final quarter will show JP that the team is getting better not worse. Rhoads can win one or two of the remaining games then his job is secured in my opinion.

I'm not saying he should or shouldnt., just saying this is how JP is looking at it.

Not saying Holliday and Babers wouldn't be good candidates but Enos is under the radar and imo may be a hot commodity in the next year or two. He completely changed the offense at CMU when he got there and struggled for two years but had a lot more success his last 3, including a win in Iowa City (which always excites me). In his first year at Arkansas the o has understandably started out a little slow, but has been coming on lately and scoring a lot of points in the SEC. If the Arkansas offense keeps doing what it has lately, I think he's going to start getting some interest. He's a former qb and an o-coordinator, two things which I think often help make for a good head coach and what we should be looking for if we're looking for a coach in a couple of weeks. If we hire another d-coordinator I may not buy season tickets for the first time in 45 years.

Rhoads will be back unless Leath says no. End of story. Only reason that doesn't make me mad is the fear of losing Warren, Lazard, Lanning, Ayeni, and Eggins. That's where our success is coming from right now. I like Sturdy but he just doesn't have the sample size yet.

So 7-6 and 6-6 and 7-6 at a MAC school is a lot of success???

Brian Kelley and Butch Jones actually did something at Central Michigan. There is a reason Dan Enos resigned from central Michigan. And it was not because he had great success. Hire Dan Enos and we will sell fewer tickets than if we keep CPR.

How are you related to Dan Enos?
