Anybody else not enjoy his calls of blowouts? I'm not expecting cheerleader like energy but I think he let's the fan in him out. Riding with non sports followers listening to the game they kept remaking how it sounded like his dog had been shot.

What do you expect? The team played like dog crap and had zero fire. Hard for Eric and Jon to have a 'good call' with the type of product ISU is fielding right now.

Wow, you know the mood is sour when we start criticizing the radio broadcast. Haha! I'd venture to guess the one part of last nights game that was superior to the other team was the radio broadcast, he calls it like he sees it. We need that right now more than ever. Could you do better?

I absolutely prefer a homer call. When the team does something good, I want the call to be exciting. When the team does something bad, I want the announcer to suffer with me. Its really annoying when a big play happens and the "neutral" TV announcer's call sounds like he is reading off his grocery list. Give me the passion of the homer call, good or bad.

I very rarely listen to the TV announcer. I pretty much always turn the TV sound down and listen to the radio call, even with annoying time lags. I personally find it odd that I am in such a minority of people who do that. True fans usually like to associate with other true fans, not the corporate shill doing the TV broadcast.

I bet you'd be mad too if he acted like it was no big deal.

John and Eric are really close to the program so it hurts them when we lose. It probably hurts them worse than it hurts most of us because they know the coaches and they know the players.

I can't imagine being Eric Heft having to interview these guys after the games over the years. Can you imaging the garbage teams he has seen? Not to mention the heart-ripping losses ISU has had...to be real honest I am extremely happy he has not taken his own life.

+1

I always listen to the radio call if I'm watching TV coverage. Last night I was at the inlaws and had the radio on, but of course the time lag 'irritated' some people so we turned it off. Not true fans, they don't understand.

I am the exact same way!

What would you like the call to be after 52-0?

I absolutely love Walters. I depend on that emotion to know what's going on in the game. For example, I listen to the Hawai'i games on my laptop through ESPNRadio out of Honolulu. It drives me nuts because the play-by-play guy gets excited about everything, including what the other team does. I hate it because he'll get all excited about something and so will eye and then he says the other team scored. It's totally deflating.

Remember, Walters is on the Cyclone network, it's his job to call the game as a fan.

I've been there. Here's the solution: Its a bit antisocial, but headphones work wonders! If possible, its often best if I watch the game by myself. Then I can do whatever the heck I like and there is no collateral damage from me throwing things and jumping and flailing around as well! :)

Oh, yeah. Also, if you have a DVR, if the TV is running ahead of the radio, you can use the "pause" feature to slow down and sync up the tv with the radio. Another DVR miracle!

Now someone needs to invent a DAR for the times when the radio is ahead of the TV!

That's how I want him to be. He's OUR voice on the radio. I don't want him to be unbiased or objective. If it's going good, I feel good and want that same energy on the radio. When it's going bad, I feel bad and expect the same on the radio.

What would bother me is getting pounded and having our radio guys act like it's no biggie. Not a fan of sunshine pumpers like many people around here want.

Very funny though true, we clone fans are gluttons for punishment.

Oh please.... **John** Walters calls a solid game, and we are lucky to have him. Also, with him being associated with ABC 5 out of Des Moines is a big plus. Stop finding things to complain about. This was a stretch.. wow.

John and Eric are total homers and it can be kind of annoying sometimes but at least they're solid at what they do. Take a listen to Dolph and Podolak sometime...they're dreadful

Walters is one the best broadcasters out there, i dont care if anyone punishes me for it, but seriously would your rather listen to Jon Walters or Gary Dolphin? I want to sleep when i listen to hawkeye games on the radio.

Yet we make fun of UNIs "O Baby" guy.

John Walters does one hell of a job! Keep it up!!
Have you guys listened to other broadcasts for other teams?? UNI's is rediculous. He gets annoying after the 2nd "O baby" or "Kaboom".
