Jon Millers "superbowl thread:" Jon's Scared.

The excuse that Iowa fans always use that they don't get "up" for the game like ISU is arguable the lamest excuse you can make for losing a game. Is there a worse way in sports to admit defeat than stating that you didn't give as good an effort as your opponent? Getting out schemed or having worse talent are things the opponent actually has to do to beat you, but lacking effort is flat out admitting that you don't even have the desire to win. Now I don't believe the Iowa players and coaches are like this, but to hear this from the fans is laughable. The Hawk fan excuses are what makes this game my favorite sporting event of the year.

Also, I think enough evidence has come out that although Ferentz doesn't treat the game as a big deal, Hayden Fry definitely did. To me, this just makes Iowa look even more pathetic as who designates an inferior opponent as a big game? It would be like if Rhoads made Kansas one of his biggest games every year.

It's just as lame as when they always say "We play down to the competition" all the time. I think most Hawk fans are finally starting to realize they just aren't that good. What I've never understood is they say it's ISU's Super Bowl because fans want to win that game more than any other game (which isn't true for me or any other ISU fan I know, I'd much rather beat a good team). Since when did fans decide the outcome of a game?

This is why it is bad when both fanbases are not excited about the product on the field. Fighting back and forth about why they may lose or have lost in the past. This thread should be about how Rudock is a girl and wears lacey panties to bed.

Here is another fantastic read
HuddlePass | Hawks vs. Clowns

Do these guys think that since they think ISU cares about the game more then it must be true? This bizarre feeling towards ISU is fascinating to me. Former players saying "well we lost because they cared more". Ummm so that means you are just a loser then right? And you freely admit it? Very strange strange reasoning from the Hawks.

We lost to them 18 years in a row? It was 15 years and I hate it. It is all they have to hang their hat on. As we get further away from that streak the less relevance it has. We are getting to the point now that most kids in high school were not born yet when the streak ended. It has become folklore for their fan base.

I was at Kinnick last year when we won. The old dude behind me after Knott's pick stood up and shouted "Don't know why you guys are cheering, we beat you 15 straight years!" True story

Did you tell him that your dad could beat up this dad?

This dude was probably 30 years older than me otherwise I would have. He also mentioned Hayden Fry wouldn't have called that play at least 10 times throughout the game

I know, just shows the absurdity of hawkeye delusion. If he truly wants to live in the past he should have been reminded of how the hawks had a losing season for over 20 years in a row shortly before their savior came to town.

Bottom line is BOTH fan bases and teams HATE to lose this game. Anyone who says otherwise is a flat out liar or is just a casual fan. It's not as big of a treat for ISUs to win as it was 10 years ago but it is still a great win. This year both teams really need this game to keep on schedule for a bowl game.

I don't think either team has to worry about going to a bowl game this year.

The "Superbowl" excuse if overplayed and lame. It is a coping mechanism for delusional Hawk fans to convince themselves that Iowa is still always better than ISU regardless of the final score.

I count exactly two upsets in the past fifteen years. Guess what, upsets happen, especially in rivalry games. Every other year, the team that won ISU/UI had the better record or was even at the end of the season. But don't let facts interfere with weak talkeye smack talk. For the record. Bookmark it, print it, copy it. Spread the word.

I agree with the poster over there that says that Miller's post is why people hate hawkeye fans. I'll admit I probably want to win this win more then most other games, but it has more to with wanting to shut Iowa fans up than because it's a rivalry game.

I think your post actually just defined a rivalry game.

A Hawkeye friend of mine has a fun story about sitting by people like that. He and his brother turned it into "Run the touchdown play" to make fun of that (under their breath).

We all know that Haydey Fry only ran touchdown plays, so it works.

I'm curious in the last 15 years when ISU wins by 3-4 points--both teams finish 7-5, and ISU plays in a better conference, it's "ISU's SuperBowl" ??

where is the logic?

It comes from the late Jim Zippermouth Zabel, Bob Brooks, Jon Miller--and their legions of idiot followers.

and Hayden Fry.

The glorification of Fry by his media posse are likened to Obama and his media worshippers. the similarities are eerie

Oh, and the U of Iowa had a huge "BEAT STATE" pep rally last night. obsess much Hawk fans?
