Jon Millers "superbowl thread:" Jon's Scared.

I think what really irritates them the most is that we as a fanbase have grown by leaps and bounds over the past 10 years while not really being super successful. Support is at an all time high, more businesses want to align themselves with us ect. I liken most hawk fans to the cool kids from highschool that left and went to college and couldn't figure out why they weren't cool anymore. The stuff they made fun of are now the cool things and the people they picked on are now the successful popular kids and they for the life of them cant figure it out. Many of them will switch and adapt their habits to fit the new cool (which we've all seen many hawk fans become clone fans). It's like that scene from the new 21 jump street when the guy punches the "hippy" guy and then gets hated on by everyone. He is the Hawks.

If anyone has noticed, the especially douchey people that you know in life are hawk fans, even hawk fans can admit that. Its just fact. Jon hitched his wagon to the wrong horse and I think he is really starting to see that and is becoming increasingly more bitter as time goes on. Nice guy though from what Ive heard.

I hate hippies.

I agree with the poster over there that says that Miller's post is why people hate hawkeye fans. I'll admit I probably want to win this win more then most other games, but it has more to with wanting to shut Iowa fans up than because it's a rivalry game.

I know this is a large part of it for me.

I agree on the fans. The only real reason I want to win is to shut the hawk fans mouths. I hate it when they talk trash and it is the only thing that keeps them respectable.

I wish Jon the best, but how can you cover a program well when you are that far away? He was not always the best getting info when he was here and in the Iowa media. Now he is basically a Hawk homer with a website, more so than in the past.

I don't know why Hawks get upset over losing the Super Bowl. It's a huge feat just to make it there that many times. Ask the Buffalo Bills.

Hayden Fry put a lot of emphasis on this game also. He knew by beating the snot out of ISU, he would get to hand pick the talent from the state. DMac knew the first step in turning the ISU program around was starting to beat Iowa.

I finally will jump in on this site.
According to this article from the Rag:Big Game meant everything to Hayden Fry | Hawk Central

Fry viewed it as their super bowl. Explains a lot of the beat downs in those 15 years of purgatory.

The excuse that Iowa fans always use that they don't get "up" for the game like ISU is arguable the lamest excuse you can make for losing a game. Is there a worse way in sports to admit defeat than stating that you didn't give as good an effort as your opponent? Getting out schemed or having worse talent are things the opponent actually has to do to beat you, but lacking effort is flat out admitting that you don't even have the desire to win. Now I don't believe the Iowa players and coaches are like this, but to hear this from the fans is laughable. The Hawk fan excuses are what makes this game my favorite sporting event of the year.

Also, I think enough evidence has come out that although Ferentz doesn't treat the game as a big deal, Hayden Fry definitely did. To me, this just makes Iowa look even more pathetic as who designates an inferior opponent as a big game? It would be like if Rhoads made Kansas one of his biggest games every year.

Pretty much what Clone fans said after the Hawks won in BB last year. Just sayin....

Half the people in that thread are slamming the people who are saying that Iowa cared more so what is your point?

Exactly. There is a bit of a difference here. Most Cyclone fans will admit defeat and rarely use the excuse, "We didn't care about the game." That is a consistent theme with Hawk fans I know though, towards the game when ISU wins. There is a reason "It's their Superbowl" is a joke around here and it isn't because we made it up. When you have former players even admitting they lost the game because ISU cared more, that's not an excuse, that's a problem.

Screw that if we lose on Saturday I am blaming the position of Mars and Messingham.
