Jon Miller's BTN show gets canned

Maybe the rest of the country doesn't like smug iowa fans who think that the entire CFB world revolves around them either. JoePa could coach his last game ever and Ron Gonder would be there asking him "How goood is iooowa?".

I don't know how anything on the BTN that is not a football or basketball game turns a profit. Wouldn't be surprised if they can all these talk shows. Who watches this stuff??

The only fault I find with Jon, is that he is hawk fan....granted thats a big fault...but still wish him the best in finding a new gig.

I've never bothered to actually turn the channel on. I just figured it was just all games with post/pre game shows. Toss in some occasional replays and a yearly "best of" show and call it a network.

THIS is what almost destroyed college football (and probably still will)? A craptastic network that only puts out about 100 hours of mostly mediocre live events a year, a bunch of olympic sports that no one cares about, worthless talk and some replays? And you know what? They don't even need to care because they forced themselves onto basic cable! Who cares if no one is watching 99.9% of the time?? What a freaking joke that network is.

I watched it a couple of times. I actually liked it. They were a bit awkward at times (due mostly to Jon's co-host IMO), but almost every show is when it starts.

A freaking joke that pays each member school in excess of $20 million annually. Hate all you want, but the vast majority of ISU fans would KILL to be in the Big 10 at this point because not only would us fans get to see virtually all of our sports on television, but the AD would be able to afford all of those projects that has been put off for years due to lack of funding (mainly, bowling in the south end zone). Not to mention that, even with a reworked Big 12 television contract, perhaps only Texas, Oklahoma, and A&M will even come CLOSE to pulling in that kind of chunk of change.

I just don't find Jon Miller to be talented enough to be on TV or radio. His voice is a monotone, he's not animated, witty, etc. He has that natural frown or dour look on his face (no fault of his own I guess) that puts you to sleep. I can see why he didn't attract/hold viewers. Plus, that "Pulse" show was just about opinions and predictions of the two hosts - everyone has their own. Very bland show with two bland hosts.

Everytime I pass by it skimming channels I get outraged at how something so terrible will single handedly destroy college sports.

This. Indiana was able to do a sweet bowling in of an endzone project because of the Big Ten network money pumping through the athletic dept. Just think what ISU could do if they were getting that kind of money every year

Not really. The Indiana end zone project was approved two years before anyone knew that the BTN was going to pay off. Half of the money was to come from sale of bonds, and half from forecasted revenue. But Indiana was planning on increased contributions, suite revenue, and higher football gates, not BTN $$$.

I saw one episode of the "The Big Ten Pulse", or whatever it was called. It was okay. A lot like PTI or shows similar to that, but focusing on the Big Ten, and really exclusively focusing on Big Ten football (not sure if it was just because of the fact it was football season, though).

As for the Big Ten Network...well, hate on it all you want, but it brings in a lot of revenue to every school in the conference. It doesn't matter where you are in the country, but if you have basic cable, chances are, you can watch conference events. If it's a football game that's not on channels like ESPN, you can probably watch it on the BTN (unless it's an away game and the home team's conference puts the games on obscure channels that you may or may not get).

Men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, the Olympic sports... you can generally see them on BTN. They don't produce all the Big Ten's sporting events, but they do have spots open for student produced programming. Soccer is usually in that category.

Their other programs are, IMO, hit and miss. Aside from the classic games, they have a few other 'history' related shows which are okay. They also have your standard talk shows about conference sports, along with hourly shows for the coaches (at least football, but maybe others as well). Finally, you have the individual university showcases, which are alright.

This show wasn't too bad, Jon was a lot better than the other dude. Maybe they should have just gotten rid of the other guy and added Melanie (I think that's her name) from Big Ten Tailgate and the show would have been good. Big Ten Tailgate is the best show on that channel outside of live sports.

I really like Jon. I miss the morning show pretty bad. But, that show probably would have worked better if they had two objective guys instead of two homers.

claims he will not go back to morning radio unless he needs it to put food on the table. still "reporting" for the big ten for Iowa games from IC, whatever that means.

The "pulse" or whatever his show was called is in the trashcan though.

KXNO should offer him the 4-7 show with Ken Miller and bump Perrault to the morning show with one of the tryout contest guys. If Matt complains ask him why he:
a) Would ever have the balls to turn down the prestigious KXNO morning job
b) Wouldn't want to work with one of the tryout guys, all of whom have been excellent and beyond criticism.
