John WIlkins

You have to understand that all levels of coaches are telling their kids not to speak to Iowa State at all. The coaching community sees and knows what is going on here, and are passing this info along to their kids. Rob Jeter just easily took a kid that we shouldn't have even offered away from us in a second. When the kid is from our state, and had a planned visit this weekend. We are not getting John Wilkins, or anyone at that level. We are a complete and utter joke.

If we cannot recruit the basics, how can we keep our coach? I mean, at some point, $2.5M seems less than the loss of competitiveness in Div 1 bball. Maybe the team can get a TARP loan.

i would visit hawaii no matter what offer i had. the school pays for it you would be crazy not to take a free trip there!

I remember hearing something about how June Jones used this "trip to Hawaii" to his advantage because they (especially in FB) had to really be careful to not extend too many invitations to visit with kids just wanting a free trip to Hawaii and not really that interested in playing there. I can't recall exactly what he did but the kid really had to make some strong commitments prior to getting the trip if my memory serves.

He probably forced those commitments because once a kid went on a visit to Hawaii they realized that Honolulu wasn't all it was cracked up to be...

Exactly, Honolulu is one of the worst places I have ever visited. Now the other islands are a different story, but most of Oahu is a very trashy place.

I've got seven names left on my list...no idea who is on the staff's list or where we sit.

Interesting. For some reason I have a feeling we'll get someone we either didn't think we'd get or don't know much about. I hope we get at least 1 today.

Last I heard on Wilkins...He was going to open it up. Didn't sound like Dad was going to let him go to ISU.

Daddy knows best. My wife is due in June, and right now I'm considering not letting my kid be an Iowa State fan in order to not put them through the treachers I've experiened as a fan in my short life. :jimlad:

well, if i was a parent and stumbled across this website I don't think I would let my kid come here either.

Only brightside would be the immediate playing time.

At the moment, Wilkins is no longer considering Iowa St. His recruitment gets weirder and weirder by the day.

Everything I have been hearing says he is considering Iowa, Indiana, possibly Illinois St, and now Houston. He is no closer to committing than he was a month ago. He is visiting Houston this weekend (isn't there a former ISU asst coach who is there now? That would probably explain why they are suddenly a player). I would be shocked if his dad suddenly decided it would be ok for him to be that far away from their home in Gary, IN.

Indiana hasn't put a full-court press on him yet, but it has been thought for a while that if Crean shows him some love, he would commit. The problem is that Crean apparently views him as a backup option.

Wilkins visited Illinois St (where his dad was a star in the '70s) 2 weeks ago but didn't commit leading many to think they are now out of the picture. Bradley, where he originally committed and would have enrolled if the NCAA hadn't dragged their feet with his eligibility decision, is also thought to be out of the picture now.

My guess is that he ends up at Iowa or Houston. Fran seems to be going after him hard and there are a lot of Hawkeye fans at his JC who are in his ear.

If the kid lets those kind of people bend his ear then trust me.... nobody wants this kid anywhere near their program.
