Jiri

Today...he didn't do awful on offense. But, he didn't have as many touches. Probably a result of his performance versus UNI. I didn't realize I was attacking just his offense. Well, I'll play fair. His defense has been terrible. He refuses to get physical, move his feet, help in the paint. I would almost guarantee we never see Jiri take a charge. Kudos to Jessan Gray who has come up with a couple this season.

Like I said, I do not hate the guy. In fact, I think he can be an asset to this team. But, he needs to be disciplined, learn his role, and play with heart. When he does that, I will be the first to post how awesome his performance was. Until then, I reserve the right to question his play.

All the post I had read from you were about his offense, so that is why I defended it. 2 games is too early to figure out how he'll be this year under a new coach. He had one bad game (shooting wise, but they were mostly open shots) and one good offensive game (limited only by lack of playing time). And the lack of playing time today was due only to matchups. He could only guard Keita halfway effectively and Keita only played in 1 or 2 minute spurts so Mac had to go a different direction.

Ok, truce. Agreed, two games is too early to judge, but that is the fun of message boards, right? :rofl8yi: I hope he plays well against Iowa...if anything, we need to save face right now, and if Jiri is the man to make that happen, giddy up!

A friend of mine who got the priviledge of observing a practice said that "Jiri has a bad attitude," and that GMac was always yelling at him.

I hope he returns to, and betters upon some bright spots in last years season. Among our 4 big men (Marsden, Gray, Taggart, & Hubalek) he seemed the most promising.

Jiri needs improvement as do all of them but I am going to go out on a limb and say that Hubalek is going to be like Lafester Rhodes was to Iowa in...I think....1989...when he went from nowhere to scoring 48 pts against the Hawks giving us a great win.

Good call. I doubt it happens. But he certainly would be the one that could shoot that much and make it happen. Wasn't it 52 or 54 points.

Has there ever been a name, in the history of ISU sports, that is better than Lafester Rhodes? I can't think of one.

clone52....I think you are right with the 52 pts. For some reason I thought it was 48 but reading your post I am now sure it was 52.

Amy...Lafester Rhodes was a rare breed. I was at school the same time as he was and had a couple classes and lived at the Towers when he would come out and eat training table. Whenever I heard him talk, the only words you could understand were the swear words....no kidding. He really enjoyed the increased fame he got after that game..

Remember Blaize Bryant and his afro mohawk. His number was 21 and he always wore the sun visors upside down so ISU made a bunch of plastic visors with 21 on them. His ISU career kinda fizzled I think

Lafester Rhodes just kinda rolls off your tongue nicely. Julius Michalik is another great one fosho. Marcus Fizer ALWAYS sounds nice, but for different reasons.

Farnald Degand (or however you spell it). "Hey, Farnald!"

Lol, forgot about that one. I'm going to name my future son Farnold Lafester.

LOL - oh, your poor child. :no6xn: You better get stock in Underoos, because that kid is in for some wedgies.

I just love "Farnold" - does anyone ever seen that show "Hey, Arnold!" on Nickelodeon? That's my entire reasoning for loving his name.

Sounds like the Jiri from the summer league. That's too bad. I don't know where he gets all of his attitude; he's done nothing to earn it. I suspect we'll see his minutes diminish as the season goes on.

Yes, I remember Blaize Bryant. Great name. But, Blaize sounds a little too smooth. Still not as good as Lafester.

Farnald is close...but the kid didn't really play.

You can never do anything to "earn" a bad attitude.

Oh! I thought of my other favorite ISU name-- Ha-Keem Abdel-Khaliq. He was a crowd pleaser in the mid-90's. Very charismatic.

I agree with you 100%. However, I didn't say he had a "bad" attitude. I'm just observing that his attitude doesn't match his skill level, at least from what I've seen so far.
