Jeremiah Cooper NIL representation

Agree with the learning a new system piece, that's what I was getting at. Cooper is the only on that list that will play a down in the NFL.
Respectfully I disagree. I think they all will have a decent shot. May not be drafted necessarily, but to say the others wont ever play a down is an aggressive take

I'm waiting for the day when you watch a game and the only way you can continue to watch is you have to make payments while the game is ongoing. Touchdown = make a payment to continue watching. There's a FG, pay the continuation fee. Sweet interception, welp that's a fee. Miss 3 consecutive required fee payments... countdown begins... warning "Entertainment fee payment required in the next 60 seconds..." "ALERT, Payment required"... fade to black.

And yes the advertisers will get on board because they'll be in on the take too.

NFL roster sizes being so small, no great farm system among other things make it next to impossible to make NFL rosters. X is barely hanging on with the Texans and he's better than the 3 not named Cooper.

Paying for a recruit is one thing

College recruits and athletes have been getting paid under the table for over a hundred years in one way or another.

That is indisputable.

Paying for a proven player is what the Portal has brought and it’s a whole different animal.

As mentioned before, not every player will jump at bigger pay days, but it certainly brings advantage to some programs.

I love the kid, but is Cooper worth that? Is he a top-10, top-15 S in college football? I honestly don’t know. I don’t know his competition at the position.

For comparison, Nwankpa was the top-rated S in his high school class and a 5-star. He’s a little more well known (or was).
2023
Cooper > Nwankpa

You think Tech does?

Also, Anthony Johnson, Leonard Johnson, and Ellis Hobbs beg to differ. No its not our most successful position, but this is still a bad take
I didn't say Tech does. Just that staying at Iowa State based on ability to put DB in the NFL has got some holes. Ellis Hobbs played for Dan McCarney lol. Leonard Johnson was done at Iowa State halfway through the Rhoads era and was recruited by Chizik.

Oh yeah I definitely agree. But was Nwankpa paid that based on the fact he was expected to be the best safety in the nation (or top 5 at least), and not actual production?

Either way, I guess we’ll find out in the next two weeks who’s going and who’s staying

So your point was referring to players only under CMC?

Size of the school doesn't matter all that much. What matters more is how big their cash cannon is. I'd imagine a school like Houston or Rice might have some mega donors that could take their schools for a ride.
SO I didn't mean size in terms of enrollment. Size in terms of boosters and pockets.

Ahhhhh.... IDK about that. I'd take Robert Woods, especially when healthy. Metchie isn't bad.

Overall, I agree though. Players are going to look to get paid NOW rather than waiting to maybe, hopefully getting drafted or making it. And hey, if they do, then even more money.

We don’t really have any position to sell when it comes to NFL. I feel like there was gap between the end of the Ellis Hobbs/Seneca times to now where there were years when we didn’t have any players in the NFL?
With two of the better RBs in the league right now, we can definitely sell that position.

You guys aren't wrong but realistically, Duke can sell it. They've got one with a massive deal in Jones, Leonard would arguably be a 1st round pick if he left, etc....

RB would probably be the one to do because there's two - but money talks. Because there's no guarantee and I get that stand point. If I'm a player and get my knee blown out and lose the chance at the NFL or that risk is there - well, then, I'll take $500,000 now please and go where the money is.

There was something from a few years back (I think 2019) that one of the new B12 schools put out. Showed athletic dept donor $$ (not NIL) and ISU was last, and farrrrr behind the ones at the top. And that was including all the G5 additions I believe
This was a thread in the last couple months I was remembering.

I have no problem believing Iowa or Texas Tech might have double our NIL money, even triple. I also have no problem believing that certain players are getting 600k. I do not believe that is the "going rate". As in, most starters are getting that kind of money. Like you said. That's like $10-$15mill. And that's just for football. I'm going to need to see some proof, or someone more reliable that an anonymous CF poster making those claims.
Let me clarify. When I said 600K was the going rate, I meant for the STUDS. That's what the high end dudes that can make or break a defense are getting. I can also say that there are guys at Iowa, players that barely see the field, making several hundred thousand a year. They were higher end recruits though so maybe they got a little more upfront due to that? I'm not an expert, I just know someone very close to many Iowa players. Iowa players are getting PAID.

Also, this coming offseason is going to be unlike any other before. The money is about to get nuts.
