Jeff Goodman Projects Next Year

Assuming we're a high seed, the most likely destinations would be Chicago or St. Louis? Tickets go on sale before long

And that's without him even considering that we will have Williams and possibly Diallo next year, though he mentions Diallo as a possible recruit for KU, also one of the #1 projected seeds.

Dude, we have Fred Hoiberg....we will always have a shot with him.

I woudn't limit it to just the next two, Fred has already reloaded and improved the team each year, no reason to think it won't continue. As long as Hoiberg is the Coach of the Cyclones the program could be in many late March run conversations.

I think you are misunderstanding my point. I didn't mean it as a negative. We will obviously continue to be very good as long as Fred is here, I was just saying next year we know we have the pieces for sure. Future years we don't know who will be on the roster

With Niang, Morris, McKay all returning All Big-12 guys, and the rest of the returners and newbies, I fully expect Iowa State to be a potential top 5 pre-season with or without Diallo. Yo.

Like that thinking (insert Koolade gif).

Good stuff. I hope it proves to be true. If both Kansas and ISU are projected as no. 1 seeds.....the Big 12 is going to be very interesting next year, to say the least.

That's awesome! Can we get a summary of what he said?

I think losing Staten is really big for WVU. They may play a "good" system but they need all the scorers they can get.

And I thought Spangler was a senior for OU this year?

Nope. Thank goodness. I can't wait to see what kind of epic tribal he adds to his tat setup.

Hallice Cooke is a HUGE addition to this squad as well. Don't forget that if Thomas keeps gaining more confidence, that's going to help a ton as well. I've also heard Darien Williams is a great player and Deonte Burton looks like that physical forward who will clean up the boards and get the garbage points that we need. With or without Diallo we are loaded next year. It's definitely a great time to be a Cyclone fan! Before we get too caught up in the hype for next year, let's focus on getting back to the Sweet 16 again and hopefully making it further then that.

My focus on next year won't hinder this year's tournament performance, I can assure you.

I want Denver!

Well, if you look at the scholarship chart, beginning my ************ for 2016-2017...

Monte Morris (now a senior, and probably the destroyer of worlds)
Custer's a junior by then, maybe ready for significant minutes
Cooke/Thomas for shooters from the 2-guard spot
Burton as the bulk energy and "trashman" like Hogue
Williams can do a Niang impression as a stretch 4

Morris/Cooke/Thomas/Burton/Williams would be a fun small-ball lineup, but might not stop anybody.

I'm sure Fred can shore up the lineup by then with a few transfers, JUCOs, and high schoolers for a Niang and McKay replacements. That "team" already has a good back-court, but they'd need some new bodies down/low or in the inside-outside positions that make the Hoiberg offense chug.

Ya because with the way things have been going we're probably due for a huge step back in 2016/17 and beyond.

I wouldn't say huge if Monte returns, we'll have Cooke, Thomas, Burton, Williams and Hopefully a two-and-done superstar in the post. Plus the last thing to worry about is Fred finding players.

I don't expect much from Burton or Williams next year. Burton will have to make the mid-season adjustment like McKay did this year, but with a lot more competition for minutes at his position. Williams is coming off of a year-off and double shoulder surgery. Hopefully he can provide some post-defense and timely shooting, but I expect Edozie-type minutes for him. Remember, he's just going to be a sophomore. Getting those two guys enough experience to step into big-time roles the following season is all I expect.

I think Williams gets a lot more minutes than Edozie did this year. Also, Burton is the most physically gifted guard I can remember having under Fred, who is beating up players in practice, and who has the potential to dominate other guards if he's in there playing the 2. I think by the end of the season, they'll be making contributions at least equal to Nader's this year. (Of course, I'm concentrating on the positives of the players which Fred has a history of bringing out.)

As much as next year is about talent its also about getting better about not losing the games we shouldnt. Games like South Carolina, @TTU and @Baylor spotting them huge early leads, or not being able to keep our foot on the gas and take a win when its in our grasp (Baylor, @KSU) need to be avoided and those werent just a lack of talent. Now with the core we have returning, hopefully that means we'll be a well-gelled machine pretty early in the season.
