Jaylin Noel hype

dang, ISU had better make this year count. not much returning for 2022

9 Offensive starters lost (depending on formation):
WR-Hutchinson,
WR-Milton
T-Sean Foster
C-Newell
G-Schweiger
TE-Kolar, Allen
QB-Purdy
RB-Hall (likely)

9 Defensive Starters (depending on formation):
DE, Uwazurike
DE, Mcdonald (likely)
LB- Hummel
LB-Vance
LB-Rose
CB-Johnson
CB-Young
FS-Amos
SS-Eisworth

I knew the turnover was a lot, but ISU returns very little next season. Hope those waiting in the wings are good and ready.
You'll see plenty of those 'waiting in the wings' on the field this year. So, they'll be ready.

Now do the two and three deeps...

My quick stab at the 2022 two deeps (without much thought or research)......

QB- Dekkers, Bouman or Becht
RB- J. Brock, Sanders or Silas
TE- Dean, Moore or Hanika
WR- Shaw, Gaines
WR- D. Jackson, Porter or Essex
WR- Noel, Scates
OT- Ramos, Treiber
OG- Hufford, Pauls
C- Simmons, Ross
OG- Downing, Maro
OT- Remsburg, Miller

DE- Suttle, Wilson or Ezeogu
DT- Lee, Brown
DT- Singleton, Deyo or Onyedim
DE- B. Peterson, R Mason Thomas
OLB- D. Davis, McLaughlin
MLB- Vaughn, Pedersen
OLB- Horne, A. Smith or Imming
CB- Kyle, King
S- I. Young, McDonald
S- Chambers, Verdon
CB- Tampa, Purchase

Isn't it somewhat likely that Isheem Young goes pro after this season? He turns 22 next month (as a RS Soph). I'd guess if he has a good-to-great season, he would attempt to go to the NFL.

This looks absolutely fantastic for a "rebuild" year.

The 2’s would likely defeat many of the starting teams from some of the lean years. They would have a decent chance at being bowl eligible. Adding in another year with S&C along with some starters returning and improved recruiting will field a competitive team.
Add in the different dimension the “new” players are going to add. If Hunter Dekkers is the starter, the field is stretched more. The tight ends will be faster and more athletic, a ton of talented young wideouts will be reaching maturity. The OL will finally be reaching the true fruition of Jeff Myers’ recruiting efforts.

Over on D, TJ Tampa is an athletic freak at corner, the safeties will be longer and just as athletic, the linebackers will be faster.

Oh, and the DL will be just as nasty, transitioning upwards.

What an awesome time to be a Cyclone!

Yeah, in years past you could feel pretty good about the starting lineup with a few studs here & there, but you wouldn't feel as confident about their backups. It's weird to be excited about what the 2nd & 3rd string have to offer. Normally we'd be trying to plug gaps with transfers & jucos and hoping for the best.

Most of the time at most positions we could put 22 decent starters out there. But your right, we really didn't have a lot of guys ready to go beyond that. I remember 2005, freaking leaders and Curvey played the whole game. No wonder why the wore down in the 4rth Q and in OT against KU.

This staff has shown they can develop as well as bring in guys who will fill immediate needs. I would also expect a few seniors to come back for another year.

My hope is that we have a bunch of games this year like WV and K State last year where the 2's and 3's play most of the second half. No better way to develop experience and confidence than live reps.
I feel pretty great about the 2022 team, but a lot will depend on figuring out which QB fits what we need. There will be growing pains for sure, but hopefully there's enough talent, depth, and live experience to overcome the inevitable freshman mistakes. I think next year we'll be reminded how great Purdy is, we almost take him for granted now.

Not to mention a lot of those backups had good offers. That's definitely not a normal thing at ISU. So yes, the staff is developing the backups, but they're also not the preferred walk ons and local two stars that we've seen in the past. I do expect a few more blown assignments on defense without guys like Eisworth and Rose out there directing traffic.

I’m still going to be very fair with next years team. Hopeful, but I understand that’s a lot of new pieces that’ll be starting all at once.

I remember how much of a transition the early 2019 offense was early on, and that was just after losing Montgomery and Butler.

I feel good about the offense and the d-line. I’m slightly worried about the back seven/eight but I know the talent is there. It might just take some time to fit the pieces together. All three of those linebackers are the current 2’s set to fill in, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that changes by the end of 2022.

We start off ‘22 with SE Missouri State, (at) Iowa, and then Ohio. I feel like the team will have opportunity aplenty to adjust without taking a lot of losses going into conference play.

I’m hopeful for them to figure things out and put it all together with the new batch of players. I’m just not setting any unfair expectations for them for that year. We could be anything in 2022 and I’m at peace with that

I don't see a lot of blowouts this year. All the blowout-able teams are road games, other than Kansas. Unless OkSt somehow goes into freefall midyear, or Texas goes 100% dumpster fire, which I suppose is possible but unlikely. But even if the 2s and 3s can get a couple series at the end that would be helpful, and better than historical.

At my age, I’ve long since learned not to have “expectations”. I have hopes—and I know the difference.

I like how the projected ‘22 offense is shaping up. It’s the defense that i’m worried about. I don’t think McDonald returns, but I think Young will return. I also think that DE Zack Peterson will take advantage of the Covid redshirt and come back in ‘22. Does anyone have a feel for how the new LBers will fare?
