Jantz named the starter

Maybe its just me but it always seemed Herman was trying to prove his system worked when he did not have the players at the time to make it work. And instead of using the strength's of his players, for instance running the quarterbacks, he wanted to push forth his system to prove to fans and coach alike that he was as good as advertised.
I thought he ran the QBs quite a bit last year.

You're goddamn right. We need to keep our offense on the field, and play for position. The defense will keep us in the game, as long as we keep them off the field as much as possible. Third down is a CYCLONE down, and it's not easy to convert them on our defense.

I've been getting pumped for football this month, but this quote got me freaking ready for CYCLONE FOOTBALL right now:

2012 - "Third down is a CYCLONE down!"

Come on offense! SMASH MOUTH CYCLONE FOOTBALL. Let's take it to everyone this year!

Those bemoaning this decision remind me of those against the hiring of the Mayor. This is the riskier choice, but has a lot more upside. Hopefully SJ becomes everything we hoped he would be last year. JB will likely get in due to injury at some point and still has two years to compete for playing time.

I guess I don't see why everyone has such a strong opinion. Both had moments of good and bad. Someone has to play and no one has seen either of them take a material number of snaps since last year other than our coaches. Everyone seems to like our coaches, and they are the ones with first hand knowledge, so whatever they see is what ISU should go with.

Jantz won his first 3 games. Period. One over a hated in state rival, one on the road versus a BCS team. Not bad. Sure he played bad for that first half at UCONN, but he got it done. Just like Barnett got it done in his wins. After UCONN I am just going to convenitnetly ignore his performance. I am of the opnion he was hurt much worse than they let on, and probably shouldn't have played at all, but they were 3-0 and figured they couldn't beat Texas without him, so he played. Before that he at least had some bright spots, after that he was basically just bad and his mobility was witout question impacted.

Barnett also played well at times and gave us the Texas Tech win and the biggest win in school history. He also committed some big errors in that game. The pick 6 and the fumble at the end that really should have given the game to OSU. But again, bottom line is like Jantz in his 3 victories, he got it done somehow. He also was awful at OU and not good in the bowl game either.

Bottom line is someone has to play, coaches like Steele, so that is fine with me. JB would have been fine with me also.

I'm not bemoaning the choice, I'm just keeping my emotions in check. All the hype last summer had me believing in the second coming of Seneca Wallace.

Re: Educated guess- Jantz is our starting QB

Rhoads just announced SJ. Let's go play some damn football now! I'm expecting 8-10 wins now.

Appreciate the team spirit. Both SJ and JB should get plenty of action this year.

A lot of you guys singing the praises of Jantz are probably the same ones that ******* about him most of the time last season. I have a feeling you will turn on him in a hurry if things don't go well this year.

Yes, I suppose that could happen. First time on message boards?

Yeah, Barnett probably knew the system better. He wasn't getting the reps Steele was, though, until Tiller was gone. It's not like he was running with the runs all the time. Essentially, they were in similar places. Quit making excuses for Jantz without allowing the same excuses to be made for Barnett.

If I was running with the runs on the time I would have a hard time concentrating as well.

Bottom line is Rhoads says Jantz gives us the best chance and I'm happy with that. The fact that we have 2 guys that can play at this level at this moment is a great thing. Paul says Steele then I say let's go! So excited for the 1st.

That said - I was ready to reverse my vasectomy after the Iowa game to try and have a boy that I could name Steele. So, I'll take a wait and see approach this year.

We are all Cyclones people! Right now SJ is our QB and let's get behind him 100%. Best case scenario is that he is the QB all year long. Not b/c I don't like JB, b/c I do, but b/c that would mean we are having success on the field.

Preach on brotha!!!!

I don't understand..how do the polls say 75% of Fanatics wanted Steele and now are complaining about him? Come on man..

Apparently it's a very vocal minority.

Also, some may have wanted him over JB but still can't help but point out his shortcomings.

If Jantz had played better in the Pinstripe Bowl, not necessarily win but just played a little sharper, I would feel really good with this choice.

I was in the minority and I am just happy to finally have a named starting QB. I would imagine had it gone the other way the meltdown would have been much worse. I just hope that Jantz can come out and shut up the naysayers.

One thing Jantz can do is make me yell profanities and cheer all in the same play and not necessarily in that order.

Well there was a dropped TD pass late in the fourth that would have closed tied it up. Then immediately after that Reeves got beat on a perfectly lofted jump ball to a really tall guy.

If Money (I think it was him) catches the TD pass on 4th down the momentum deffinitely shifts to the good guys.

Jantz didn't play great but he hadn't played in a while so a little rust is expected. I hope he can hit the ground running and show us some good SJ all season.
