Consistently good? He really can't be any more inconsistent than his great drives and poor play last year .
Both are good quarterbacks, and I feel certain that both will hit the field at points during the season.
You are correct. If Jantz has the game locked up in the 4th, Barnett may see some snaps. Also if there is an injury which is very possible with QB's that can run, Barnett would see the field.
Im just saying the guy has started 3-4 games at the D1 level his whole life and some on this board think he should be Joe Montana by this point.
Absolutly agree here. This is why I didn't want SJ to be the starter this year, because he just BURRIED us in those games early. I thought Barnett played well for a Freshman, and against WAY better opponets. Heck, he is the one that has actual wins in conference too. But hey, I am a believer that a guy can clean it up and polish his game in one year's time.
I also think the situation could be this, that they both have continued to be neck and neck throughout these practices....and really are equal, then CPR is giving the Senior a chance in this situation. I'm getting behind SJ - go out there and take care of the ball and find a way to win! This is the Senior's responsibility...go out and perform well against Tulsa. But, I see a short leash on him... if he struggles early again against Tulsa... #7 is coming in.

I don't think they are opposites. You simplify the process, put your guy in the best position he can be in, and live with the results. If a guy knows he has a short leash, confidence goes down and there is too much thinking about getting pulled for a mistake. So, I think a short leash complicates things.
To me, if I am the coach (and I am not, for the record), my guy is the guy unless something drastic necessitates a change. I'm not flip-flopping back and forth. At least not at the QB position.
Well Herman was good at one thing and that was forcing his system down the players throats and rarely accommodating the offense to what was actually working properly. The only game I can remember was the Texas Tech game from last year, the run was working on every down and instead of forcing the pass, he stuck with the run. Steele Jantz is hands down the better runner, hopefully Messingham accommodates to the strengths of Steele Jantz instead of worrying about forcing his own system down an opponents throat. This could quite possibly the best running team we have ever had, with quarterback and running backs alike, I hope to see this team just run it down other team's throats. We have a huge upper hand in that regard, I hope passing is only second nature.
I agree. In fact, I hope we have a "wet" fall too. And with that, we just run OVER teams all year. The running game is going to be the reason we are the suprise team in conference this year. Almost play like K-State did and run the ball/clock and find a way to win. Play our game, play to OUR strengths.
I don't really think CPR wanted JB to come in last year. We looked awful against UT, MU, and aTm before he had to pull the trigger. I think Jantz was CPR's guy and Barnett was Herman's guy. Especially evident in the bowl game with Herman leaving and JB was pulled....what a great opportunity to get "your' guy back in and re-open this "competition". All of the pre-bowl talk was about SJ being 100% for the bowl and how well he practiced. He comes in and plays like crap. However today, we find out he wasn't 100%. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he doesn't like JB. However, I think SJ will have a very long leash this season so RustShack, don't sweat it.
You're goddamn right. We need to keep our offense on the field, and play for position. The defense will keep us in the game, as long as we keep them off the field as much as possible. Third down is a CYCLONE down, and it's not easy to convert them on our defense.
Maybe its just me but it always seemed Herman was trying to prove his system worked when he did not have the players at the time to make it work. And instead of using the strength's of his players, for instance running the quarterbacks, he wanted to push forth his system to prove to fans and coach alike that he was as good as advertised.
