Jantz named the starter

I also wonder if CPR sees 2013 as Richardson's year. If Jantz and JB are even this year, he can start Jantz this year and transition to Richardson next year without the politics of "dethroning" a starting QB.

I don't know about that. I really believe the coaches have to go with who they truly believe gives them the best shot to win. I'd be surprised if there is any real thought like that going on. As a coach, you have to believe everyone has the potential, or you wouldn't have recruited them, that being said, you also can't rely on a year giving that much improvement. IF SR wasn't really a major player in this battle this year, it's hard to believe you think he'll be the guy next year. Unless it strictly is a play book thing.

I believe in this case, the coaches see what the fans see in SJ. A QB who has tremendous athletic ability. At the end of the day, all other things being equal, I would be going with the most athletic guy. As a College football coach, your days of playing favorites and letting people down softly should not be part of the plan.

I'm not saying it won't work out the way you said next year, but I'd be really disappointed if I found out the reason for choosing SJ as starter was based in any way on the backlash that might be incurred next year if JB was detrhoned as starter. We've got to have the guy who gives us the best shot to win now playing. Deal with next year next year.

I think with Herman gone, and a more simplified playbook, the O will get on track. Steele has a year under his belt in the system. If we truely are going to be a run first team, that could bode well for Steele. He has got some elusive speed. Gotta eliminate the mental errors, and protect the ball at all costs.

Yes, our Hawk buddies get to see Steele one more time!

44-41 (3 OT)

I'm happy with this decision. Obviously though, I haven't actually seen how either of these guys have done this fall so far, so I'm putting a lot of faith in coach's decision. But I've been thinking this whole time that if Jantz wins this thing that we'd be a better team for it. Just have kind of a gut feeling about him over JB.
I sort of agree with Resident's thought, but don't think CPR would ever base a whole season on that kind of thing. I do however believe that Richardson will start next season (again, I haven't seen much of him, just a gut thing.)
Part of me just believes that if we see Jantz play well and remain the starter the entire season, I think there's a huge chance we never see JB start again. Who knows though, a lot of things can change by then.

Would be excited no matter who was named starter, but I hope that if the first half is similar to last year we don't need 3 OT's to finish off the game. Never should have been that close. Clean up the mistakes.

I hope Steele has improved his decision making in the zone-read game. Jared really excelled at when to keep and when to give. With his natural running ability if he can run the zone-read as effective as Barnett he could really do something special for us.

Like actually hold onto the football??

I like it. I am so freaking pumped for football to start. Jantz should do well and if not we have someone ready in the wings that is capable to step in and make plays

A lot of you guys singing the praises of Jantz are probably the same ones that ******* about him most of the time last season. I have a feeling you will turn on him in a hurry if things don't go well this year.

I was only able to see a couple of games last year. From what I saw Jantz had a couple of amazing moments, but JB seemed more stable. I hope that this works out for us.

like actually throw it to our team

JB wasnt perfect... If I remember he had a little problem holding onto the football.. But everyone seems to forget that. Yes he can run the zone read better, but if he fumbles after a 20 yard gain (like he did against oklahoma state), what is the difference between that and throwing ints??

Jantz was a very exciting player to watch. Unfortunately, that was good for both teams.
