Jamie Pollard on KXNO today

I thought the story about the remaining 8 schools talking about a conference rename and when the 4 new schools got told they said absolutely no way.
Honestly, I think have a numerical named conference is dumb. However, I can't think of a conference name without out it being cheesy like the "American". I thought in the past I didn't mind something like the "Heartland Conference" but our conference is hardly regional anymore. If we stay at 12, the big 12 is fine but if we do go to 14. I think it is time to chance the name.

Glad he's bringing up CY, Scheman, and Fisher.
He’s done a good job with athletics,in my opinion. But did not like his answers on the Iowa State Center. Needs a sense of history.

Clearly it needs to be changed to the Legends & Heroes Conference.

The recent history is that the university kicked the can down the road on some ISC issues, and now it's in athletics' lap to figure it out. Stephens and Scheman aren't what they once were, and that's a harsh reality that a lot of people don't like to hear.

Great showing out of JP on KXNO. I do hope we get to see his vision through on CY Town before he departs (if that’s in his plans).

Add the 4 corners and 4 leftovers from the ACC in a few years, and it's coast to coast and 20 teams.

They'll call it the "Sea to Shining Sea" conference or the "Beautiful America" conference or some crap like that. Or go full on league sponsorship - call it "The Venti Conference presented by Starbucks".

Since it's all 2nd tier teams, all that ever comes to mind for me is the Shoveller's speech in Mystery Men:

There’s no use waiting for the cavalry, because as of this moment, the cavalry is us. This is our fight, whether we like it or not. Just we few. We’re not your classic superheroes. We’re not the favorites. We’re the other guys. The ones nobody ever bets on. We’re all in over our heads and we know it. But if we take on this fight, those of us who survive it will forever after show our scars with pride and say, “That’s right. I was there. I fought the good fight.”

They also occupy some very valuable real estate, separating the campus from Hiton and JTS, visually and otherwise. In a different era, this was probably viewed as a positive separation.

In today's era, you best put your athletic department front and center, both literally and figuratively. Or else you risk wandering into the mindset that is working so well in the Pac12.

Great interview with Pollard. He was on for most of the first hour. Here are some of the topics:
  • He has been here 18 years, longer than any other AD or President in the Big 12.
  • "Big 12" name is liked by the incoming schools.
  • Raising some of the parking lots 8 feet.
  • Doesn't appreciate the dark, concrete design of the ISC.
  • Very cooperative with the We Will Collective.
  • ISU/EIU football game looks good for the future.
  • ISU/Drake/UNI basketball games don't make sense in terms of risk/reward for the NCAA tournament.
  • NCAA tournament matchups are made by a computer.

Those ******* actually have a say in conference affairs???

When will it end?!?
Had a chance to talk with him this past fall and he mentioned that the 3 incoming schools from the AAC were basically kicked out of all conference meetings once they put in their notice. Meanwhile Texas and Oklahoma were, and still are active in B12 meetings.

I would think the Foundation would steer this? Good grief.

Let's Mountain West their asses and give them the goddam boot.

One thing to note, if for example just Colorado and Arizona come.. I believe the Big12 has owned the rights to the name “Big14” for awhile, that’s why the B1G couldn’t use it.

A damn truth bomb. Maybe that was cool in it's time, but it hasn't aged well at all.

Can you expand on this a little?

In context, he was demythologizing the NCAA tournament selection process. They don't sit in a room smoking cigars and trying to come up with interesting (or payback) matchups. They rank the teams and the computer determines the matchups based on all the rules.

I don't think Jamie is a fan of the brutalist school of architecture. He definitely prefers the brightness of the lighted bridge and the concept of glass around Hilton.
