First, I hope ISU has the resources and Pollard has the vision to dismiss Mac at the end of year and allow the program the opportunity to change directions in an upward manner. However, no matter what Pollard is truly thinking, being in the middle of the season has a lot to do with his responses.
Not saying Pollard is going to fire Mac at year end (I can only hope), but from a relations stand point, it's unlikely that he would say anything publicly until the season is over. He didn't say anything that was black and white with Morgan, but was quick to the trigger. I doubt many people at the end of last season saw Morgan's dismissal coming as swift as it did. I know these are different situations, but understand Pollard's position when he responds to questions.
Pollard knows that if things continue as they have so far this year (and past years) that he can quickly adapt after the year if he needs. It's easier for him to side step these "get rid of Mac" questions for now and come up with a new communication plan after the year is over if desired.
I can again only hope that Pollard is the AD that I think he can be. I have faith that we will see changes this year (even though Mac being let go probably is slim) but next year is another story. Just wait until fans go to pony up season ticket purchases again next year after again seeing Mac's results this year. When the numbers come in lower, Pollard may quickly realize that those crazy fans sending him e-mails and asking questions, also buy tickets and donate money.
I hope Pollard follows his vision without fear.
