I haven't seen anybody say anything about him yet but when I got a chance to watch the game on Sunday, I was very impressed with how he moved out there. He covered some serious ground and I am very excited to see what kind of player he is going to be in a year or two. Wish we had more LB depth this year so he could have redshirted

He's a little small, but looked like he had good speed. I could see him being a quicker, but smaller Jesse Smith, which would be a pretty damn solid player.

Speaking of that, has anyone else ever thought Jesse could be pretty effective lining up at DE from time to time?

What is the link for watching the replay, if any?

Thanks

Z

I just watched it on espn360 the next morning. Had a wedding the day before so I didn't get a chance to watch it

As for Knott being smaller, I agree. But he has room to grow and I believe he has some good height. That is why a redshirt would have been huge for him.

Knott is actually 2 inches taller than Jesse and they weigh the same. The chances of Knott moving to DE are much higher than Smith who is too short, small, and slow to move to DE.

When Knott was recruited the coaches said he had the hip movement of an upperclassman. Even tho he wasn't big name, he had more technique coming in than most of the other guys. Just let him build himself up physically and he will be a regular for his ISU career.

Interesting. I guess it's just because he's thinner, less muscular or something that I thought he was smaller than Jesse.

And maybe I'm wrong but I always thought that anyone who plays LB is fast enough to play DE. Even if they are slow at LB.

I thought that Jake looked really good out there. I saw his number on the screen quite a bit as I was wathing the 4th quarter. It was good to see Klein get that fumble recovery, also. I think we have a couple of guys that will be big contributors for the next few years.

Who knows. He could put on some weight and become a gamechanging DE for us. Something that we have been lacking since berryman.

I would think that there are different types of quickness & speed for those two positions. DE you need the quick first step and first move, LB you need more flat-line speed to cover distance around the field.

They have to be. We don't have too many others at LB.

He'll be fun to watch with AJ Klein the next 4 years. They're playing those two because they will likely start next year with Tuafoou and Lattimer going for the other spot.

Yep. I'd be REALLY excited about our young LBs if we would have nabbed Marry or Mars or if Princeton Jackson would have made it. As it is, they are going to have to get a JUCO LB (or two) like Earls to give them some depth.

As for Knott, I could see him eventually moving to DE if he's able to put on another 20 lbs. That's why I was hoping he could redshirt...to see what kind of weight he could add. DE is going to be just as depleted as LB going into next year, so it will be interesting to see what the staff does as far as filling those holes.

Right.

Do you guys realize how much of the defense we lose after this year? Granted, it's not a strong point of the team (but showing they are improving more than I had anticipated, will find out if it's competition or real improvement), but we will come into 2010 with little experience on that side of the ball.

Getting some guys in there earlier, even though it's burning a redshirt, is a very good plan, IMO.

A good plan would have been to have a few more guys in place to step up next year, but at this point, this is the best CPR can do. ISU is going to be in desperate need of DE and LB next year. JUCOs will be coming.

I like Knott & Klein a lot. Those guys already had good size coming in, but each have the frame to bulk up some more. I'm tired of going after 195-205-pound LBs (unless they're studs). Watching Knott play the other night, I think he's better suited at OLB, possibly on the strong side, but I think he has some pass rushing ability as well. If he can add a little more weight, he'd remind me of 3-4 style OLB. I think we're pretty firmly entrenched with the 4-3, but it's nice to know that we potentially have a pass rushing option at LB.
