Jake Campos Injured

If it would of been the second or maybe third string QB I may agree with you. It was a high school QB who had been mostly a receiver who ran the wildcat. Playing QB in game to decide league championship participant. That my friend is an amazing example of next man up! Was not last year. It was two or three years ago, I forget when exactly....oldtimers.

I was speaking specifically to Toledo replacing the entire o-line last year.

I actually think you can get by with the wildcat with a good o line. You can't get away with a horrible offensive line. I would think Iowa State fans would be prepared for that.

But we don't know if they're horrible. All that's for certain is that they lack experience. Let's get at least one game into the season before we label any unit on the team as good or bad. Right now it's mostly unknowns.

There is absolutely no evidence they will be even decent. But you are correct, we don't know for sure.

That's fair enough. If you're looking just at the lack of experience, then things look pretty bleak along the o-line. I'm just hopeful that Campbell and Manning's expertise and background allow them to piece together a capable front five. Might take some time and shuffling around before they figure out the right five, though. The sooner the better so the group can start getting reps together.

Lets see......If it would be a good idea, all coaches would use their wildcat 4th string qb in a game as the sole QB which decides who goes to the league championship game. I personally would equate it with having three [1st 3 qbs] quarter size holes in your row boat with a tea spoon [wildcat qb] to use to bail out the water. NOT SOMETHING ANYONE WOULD CONSIDER A " GET BY" method.

Some people need to watch the podcast with Jeff Woody, they might learn something. I believe CMC and his staff will have a plan and because of that plan our offensive line will be ok.

Wow, some people freak at a little adversity. I am really bummed for Campos. These kids put in so much work and then to get hurt during practice has to be a huge disappointment.

That said, the staff has plenty of time to adjust before the first game. Sure individual talent is important, but for the OL, having a cohesive position group is more important. I trust that we have kids on the roster that will step up and the coaching staff will scheme accordingly. Having an offense that utilizes the TE position in different ways will help.

My expectations haven't changed because of the Campos injury. I fully expect ISU to win 6 games and make a bowl. Seems kind of silly to jump ship before we play our first games.

If ISU wins six games with a new coaching staff and a green o-line, then Campbell will be the NCOY.

NCOY. What is a "NaCoy". Is that some wild coyote type animal native of Iowa. An Ohioan who needs alittle Iowa learnin.

Campos is a common name and I hope he is able to play, but the O-line at ISU has not been consistently good for about 15 years. People will argue that it was good in one year or another, or something; those types of teams were marginal at best, and were usually only marginal because of OK defense.

Hopefully in a couple of years a response to this kind of a situation is 'Bummer, but ________ should be able to fill the void' instead of the 'here we go again' mantra.

In a way the Oline being green/inexperienced can be good. It will be a good measuring point if by November there's a decent/reliable running game and a team/staff that can handle 3rd and 3 by doing what they know works.

I think a major key here that Coach Manning hes eluded to is that they aren't going to try to do things that the O-Lineman aren't capable of doing. Which is think has been an issue in years past.

From the article on CF:
“We know some of the guys that are going to be able to make plays,” Manning said. “We wanted to find who’s the next guy. We also wanted to find what formations suit us well. What ways can we put different players in different positions and, also, what do we do well. What do throw, what kind of balls do we throw well. What kind of runs do we have that match our players. I think that was the biggest part that we were looking for in camp. Obviously, you always want to be as multiple as you can, but I think the one thing that we try to do a great job of is finding what each player does particularly well and how can we match that into the scheme and the framework of our offense.”

I like what I'm reading/hearing from these guys. Hopefully that comes to light.

What if you look at the starting offensive line as this:

LT - junior
LG - senior
C - 6th year senior and former OSU letterwinner
RG - senior
RT - red shirt freshman

This is reason that I am going to give these guys a chance. The one young guy we have is probably the guy the coaches has been the most impressed with.

If these guys stay healthy I think they have a chance to be decent. We do have 2 JC guys who should be ready to help about half way through the season hopefully as well as bryce meeker who they also seem to really like.
