Its recruiting

When we play Oklahoma and Texas you can say it's recruiting, not tonight. David Johnson was as good if not better than advertised. We missed a lot of tackles and didn't play up to expectations on either line. I think we need to take more shots down field offensively if we want to be a run first team.

The point is, even if you come out rusty, if you have BCS league caliber players, you're typically not going to be dominated by a 5-6 FCS team at home. They were the better team tonight. This wasn't a case of us being rusty or un-prepared. We were actually the inferior team tonight. If we played 10 times on a neutral field, they would win 6-7 of them.

What has our average record been in years when we've lost to UNI? 1-11, 2-10, etc. That's very likely what we're looking at this year.

I wasn't aware that UNI signed a bunch of big 12 caliber players..... A bunch of Iowa boys that neither in-state D1 program wanted just physically **** pounded us.

It's not recruiting. It's player development, coaching, and competent play calling.

That is one of the few sensible posts I've read tonight. The loss sucks...BAD, but there are too many posers on these boards with knee jerk emotional reactions that sound like little beyotches. Never seen more bandwaggoners in my life.

As far as how we'll do this year it's worth pointing out while the game was disappointing, it was much better played than in previous years when we've lost to UNI.

It's also worth pointing out this isn't a sub-500 FCS team, this is a very solid football team that is very deserving of all the pre-season accolades they've received.

Beyond that we are the more athletic team and have better recruits, I don't know how else to say it. They've have a handful of guys like David Johnson who are Big 12 caliber players but we have better players. I think we got outplayed, and I think you may be underestimating the quality of coaching UNI has position by position.

ISU should be able to line up, and pound them, especially on a 100 degree night, yet we NEVER can. And I agree, if we played 10 times UNI would win 7 or 8. The real disappointing thing...is the o line and linebackers. We had a couple guys playing tonight, that shouldnt have been playing D1 football.

I've been a fan for 35 years or more. By now, I know dog **** when I see it.

There is no excuse. LOL at the "dump the UNI series" thread. If we can't beat UNI (at home), we might as well drop football. It's a disgrace. Admit it. You'll find it to be very liberating.

I'd be happy with top notch FCS players after what I saw tonight. Is UNI winning the recruiting battle against us, too?

For the record, I don't actually "like" this thread, but I doubt anyone would think that UNI is out-recruiting ISU. I think the gap is somewhere else in the system.

While I agree that the coaching was what cost us the game, the fact that we can not just show up and beat UNI in year 5 is b.s. It's been years since we had a true playmaker at WR.

I can sort of understand making that argument for the offense, which has a LONG track record for sucking under Rhoads.

But our D has been pretty salty under Wally. Previously, he's probably done more with less than anyone in the B12. He just has very little to work with right now, and I am sorry to say that these are CPR's guys. We've ran out of Chizik recruits, which weren't great, but gave them something to work with.

In year 5 of new regime, we should be able to beat an FCS team at home when putting up 410 yards.

How many points will Baylor, OU, Texas, TCU, and Okie State put up against us?

Guys. Let's put it into perspective here. Don't blame our recruits for the program's failures.

Second, remember when we beat OSU? Imagine this pain times 100. You can't blame an entire system on one bad game to start a year when 90% of the team is super young. Bad games happen. Doesn't mean the program is in ruins.

Maybe we will get better as the season goes a long and our young team matures.

Don't give up on this season yet, but 2014 could still be a special year. We finally have talent coming in

I can't say I disagree with the OP. I am really surprised at how bad the o-line looks in year 5. I just don't see Big 12 talent on the line of schrimmage on both sides of the ball.

You are very intelligent, and I agree with everything you said.

Nobody wants to admit it but it is recruiting... Rhoads staff isn't good at it.

Legally, could we hire Samantha Steele-Ponder as our main recruiter, and just have her go out and seduce young men into signing to come here?

Not flaming, but what talent would that be? I know there is a certain wide receiver, but he has one eye on Stanford or Notre Dame as a Plan B. Year 5. Tired of the wait until next year mentality. Need coaching on the offensive side of the ball to match the defensive side of the ball.

They have some from Kansas, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois too. Two are from Florida. None from Texas or California. Their stud linebacker is from cedar Falls.
