In the past year we have seen a lot of changes to our Athletic Dept.

1. Enter Jamie Pollard, an AD who is actually doing something for the program instead of constantly having a look on his face as if to say "I could really use some time in the bathroom" like VanDeVelde did.

2. McDermott hiring. Could any other coach do what he has done so quickly here? Possibly a few bigger names, but he has shown that he is the real deal so far.

3. Sanderson. Olympic gold medalist. Undefeated college career. Reminds people of Gable.........only ISU didn't let this one get away.

4. Chizik. ISU got both the coach and the name. Time will tell but I'm already counting the days for Cyclone football to start.

I went to 10 ISU football games this season. Had a great time at all. Here's to possibly making them all next year in our new tailgating bus.

Buses rule!

We have an amazing tailgating tradition here at Iowa State. After going on the road to Colorado, Nebraska, NIU, etc we should be really proud of the gameday environment around Jack Trice. I hope Gene likes brats, chili, and beer.

Let's keep that tradition strong!

I agree. Went to Lawrence last year....worst tailgating I have ever seen. K-State wasn't bad though.

Trying to be objective, I still say Iowa State is a superior tailgating school. Even over our Eastern Iowa friends.

I think our stadium is a big reason for that with ample parking, a centrally located easily accessible facility, and top notch hospitality and sportsmanship.

Here's my personal Top 5:

#1 Wisconsin
#2 Iowa State
#3 Washington
#4 Iowa
#5 Ohio State

I've never been to Auburn but some friends have (ex ISU students) and they say its almost like the ISU experience there as well.

Went to Texas A & M last year and they are number one in my book for hospitality. They bent over backwards to welcome us and show us around and provide information. They were great to us even after the game even though the Cyclones beat their team.

Strangely enough, Texas fans were great as well. Met a lot of cool people down there. Wonder if they will be as nice from now on?

I'm also not sure if Texas has anyone originally from Texas though. One guy was telling me he had gone to an ISU/Iowa game once and couldn't believe how heated it gets between fans. Said it was worse than Texas/OU.

They have to be well mannered down in Texas. Everyone has guns.

It's just a different way of life. The same guy told me they often hold students back in 8th grade if they show promise on the football field so they get an extra year. He said they do not have study halls. That time is spent working with their position coaches. In high school!
