It drove the media crazy

An actual buried story is that a conference got a 1 seed, a 1 seed, a 2 seed, and another 2 seed that was barely .500 in conference...and got absolutely obliterated other than one team that made the Elite 8.

Pac's underseeding was as big of a story. We need to shake up the way we select and seed teams. No conference is good enough that teams that are barely .500 should be getting 2 seeds while the regular season champion of other leagues are getting 5s and 7s. Net ranking said Ohio State was #8 with their paltry 12-8 league record so they get a 2 seed. Net ranking said Loyoyla was #10...but somehow no 3 seed for them. The ranking metrics have just become a way to favor pet teams and then ignore it for non-pet teams.

I really don't blame people if they don't want to promote Baylor as a champion since the school probably should have had its athletic department dismantled. I'd treat them similar to if I had to write a story about an organized crime syndicate that is known to be above the law. There are few better examples of why individuals and groups/corporations are absolutely nothing like each other than how Baylor's athletic department got away almost completely with running a rape ring and was basically free to just keep on running.

The REASON THAT BAYLOR IS ABOVE THE LAW is quite simple they have tremendous political muscle with the big money people who fund political campaigns.....

DON'T BELIEVE ME? Gov Ann Richards who went to Baylor, flat said...
THERE WILL BE NO SWC TEAMS IN THE BIG 12 IS BAYLOR IS NOT ONE OF THEM!
That is what she told Donnie Duncan, the EX football coach at Iowa State, who brokered the deal between the Southwest Conf and the Big Eight Conference.

Why was Donnie Duncan involved in the first place, because he had a friend in the big 8 conferece...HEAD COACH BARRY SWITZER AT OKLAHOMA. THERE IS A REASON THAT BARRY SWITZER CRIED AT DONNIE'S FUNERAL...THEY WE THE BEST OF FRIENDS!

You can argue that Baylor has very much looked the other way regarding the criminal behavior of some of their athletes. (You can also argue that's simply human nature, flawed as it is.) But I can't find anything bad to say about what Drew has done with this program. He inherited a smoking crater, and with a definite plan and all kinds of positive thinking has gotten to the pinnacle.

I can't say enough good things about Scott Drew, a man I used to laugh at because he was kinda goofy and had pi$$ poor TO management. He deserves every accolade.

Because it was an ass-whooping from the start.

But all of the talk all weekend was that Gonzaga was too good and wouldn't have any trouble with UCLA or Baylor.

Even with BU dominating Houston the way they did.

Something that got way overlooked was how UCLA was playing. No idea how they ended up with that low of a seed but their run and hanging with Gonzaga wasn't a fluke.

I thought the announcers/media/whatever you want to call it were very complimentary of Baylor last night. I think the announcers were naturally or unintentionally cheering for Gonzaga to get back into it so it was a more exciting game. I don't blame them for that. Blowouts are lame and the game last night kinda sucked for what had been a pretty exciting tournament. (I wanted Baylor to win)

What you’re not taking into account is that the Big Ten is an absolute meat grinder and the teams are so worn out from playing top notch competition day in and day out that their worn out by tournament time.

(this is an argument I’ve actually heard the last couple weeks)
So true.......this has been their "speak" every year they don't win ncaa.

The Big Ten is a meat grinder, I will give them that. But it's because most of the teams (at least this year) were built to compete in the Big Ten only. The traditional big man is mostly a thing of the past, but the Big Ten teams seem hell bent on keeping it around. Then they wonder why they suck in the real tournament when everyone else's guard play is so much better than theirs

Love the comments guys.......I really do, but it doesn't change that there was media bias. It was blatant.
What’s an example of “media bias”? And why do you care!

whatever the case- you can be sure of one thing, Baylor isn’t the victim here...

Example - 90% + of the broadcast was biased. Why not?

Never said they were a victim.

Everyone thought Gonzaga was going to come back - especially when they cut it to ten at half. So that was good TV. Baylor’s defense was smothering and they made the shots, without getting to the line. FTs kept Gonzaga as close as they were.

All I know is that Baylor has been in two national title games and they boat raced both teams. Oh wait, Iowa's was in the NIT.

At least Gonzaga wasn’t dunked on nearly as much.

I thought the refs favored Gonzaga as well. They got away with a lot of hard fouls

Err, that’s not an example. It’s a really dumb opinion. Do you even know what bias is?

And you absolutely are claiming they are the victim of bias. How can you say you aren’t? Why not just celebrate the win instead of coming on here to cry about the “media”?

I don't know about "the media"...and idgaf if they're complimentary to Rapelor or not...because **** them...

...but Grant Hill's **** sucking of Gonzaga in the first half was embarrassing last night. Did I hear him say "They're right back in it"! when they pulled it to down ten at the half...jfc Grant, you know they weren't.

Or maybe it was. It’s a one off tournament, crazy stuff happens. Seeding is easy in hindsight.

Actually I was surprised just about 20 minutes ago, those ESPN radio guys were talking about if Gonzaga had to play in the Big 12 this year and play twice against Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Texas Tech, Texas, etc., there is no way they go undefeated. So, I was glad to see some national media, and ESPN in particular, actually admit that the Big 12 was the true "meat grinder" this year. They didn't actually say that, but by using the Big 12 as the conference that Gonzaga would have struggled in, yeah, that's what they were saying.

Well, yeah they are saying it now. But before game time, the only ones saying it were CF. Well, and every other fan of the Pac12, Big East, Big 10, ACC, Big12 for the past 10 years.

ESPN was in a bind too - they didn't have Duke, UNC, or any of the Big10 to force down everybody's earholes. They had to pimp someone and the Zags were it.

On the conference thing - let's face it, there really is something to the meat grinder schedule. It forces you to find ways to win when you are tired and burnt out from playing 3 ranked teams in 8 days. It forces you to recognize your weaknesses when you inevitably lose some games. It makes you tougher and better.

If Gonzaga was in the Big12 this year, they prob go 14-4, but they would have been even tougher in the tournament when the time came.

In fariness, they always do stuff like that in blowouts to try to keep people watching. This happens in about 50% of Super Bowls for example.

Part of an national announcer's job it to keep the viewer engaged. When Baylor got up early why would the announcers start saying "oh Baylor is awesome, no way the Zags can come back" They want people to watch so will keep saying Gonzaga is good and has the ability to get right back in the game.
They don't want to keep people from watching.
And every year there is usually a media darling. It was Gonzaga this year because they were a good team and undefeated. This happens almost every freaking year.
