ISU vs UNI postgame thread

You could say the same about us, we just stopped shooting them and went to another strength that the Panthers failed to stop.
Here's my thoughts from the game:
This seemed like it might have been a "light goes on" game for Brackins. He took it strong in the post from the start and shot very few fade aways. He hasn't rebounded good all year, and he didn't start the game rebounding either, but then after about the 10 minute mark of the first half it seemed like he got everything. Because of that we finally out rebounded someone (45-36).
I think this game is another won by McDermott out coaching the other guy (like UC Davis). The zone with 4 guards for the last 8 minutes of the game was genius.
I liked that Eikmeier was out there for crunch time, and didn't make any silly mistakes or force any shots in OT. The team seemed to know exactly what they were supposed to do at the end of the game and in OT, and it's clear that this is DG's team. The game is on his shoulders at the end. He should have taken the ball to the hole at the end of regulation though. He had plenty of time.
Our post defense was horrendous in the first half. It seemed like we fouled every time down the court. That needs to get fixed before the Big 12 season.
I wasn't expecting us to win this game, because it was on the road, so I think this is a huge win and will pay dividends as the season goes on, giving us confidence on the road. Hopefully we can pull one out in Iowa City too.

I disagree. Good BCS conf. big men dominate the mid-major big men. Good guards are everywhere. Moran really started to get some interest from some SEC schools his senior year but was already commited to UNI.
Also, we did beat Auburn last week. Not that they are a super team, but still.
And if you had a normal game with turnovers (didn't UNI have 2 the whole game?), then it's a different story again. That's what kept you in the game.
You can't take out one variable, hold everything constant, and use that as any kind of credible proof.
They had to pick what was going to beat them. If they doubled down the 3 would be open. McD went with 4 shooters a lot and it made a huge difference in how the D had to run.
We didn't shoot any better behind the arc. Almost every excuse you've made as to why you lost (bad calls, threes) are things we could claim as well.
I think we won because of 2 things.....
1. We got smart. The 3's were not falling, and we wised up and made it a 2 player game. If we would have kept jacking up 3's from SH and BP, we lose easy.
2.UNI didn't get their 3's to fall. The zone we played actually looked decent. Normally those 3's always fall for UNI. If they hit even close to their season average, we lose by 10.

All you're saying is we shot 14 threes and made hardly any of them and still won the game. If we even shoot below average, and not rediculously horrid, it might be a different story and we wouldn't have needed overtime.
i lost all respect for auburn when they lost a game in which dayton shot 0-24 from 3 pt range. :biglaugh:
I never said ISU wasn't up and coming. I think they have a really bright future. Probably will be a lot of ups and downs for them yet this year.
Dayton is good. They beat a really great Marquette team last week. I'm betting Auburn is better than Hawaii.
its gonna take more than a OT win @ UNI... but hell its a start!

ah, I see you positioning for more hawkeye logic. Auburn is better than Hawaii and Hawaii beat ISU and UNI beat Auburn so UNI is better than ISU. I love it, I love it, I LOVE IT!
