dude ISU has lived by the three this year... on the season now UNI is 39-118 from three (33.1%), ISU is 47-115 (40.9%)... not only do the teams shoot a similar number of them, but iowa state is more proficient at the three. your arguement holds no water. take out tonights game and UNI is still shooting 38.4% while ISU would be 44.6%
give some credit to ISU not allowing to the ball to get inside and forcing he panthers to shoot bad threes or make plays off the dribble.
....and what was impressive is that 3 players cleared out for ISU and CB + DG alone beat you. there was no way you could stop them
I've liked his court positioning, but he's not near ready defensively. He's one guy I'd like to see play more.
I actually thought it was a fairly tightly called game. When UNI was dribble penetrating or feeding the post, we fouled regularly. When they stopped both, there was nothing to call. With ISU having 4 guys on the perimeter without dribble penetrating regulalry (not counting the last couple minutes of reg and OT) there was nothing to call. They were trying to body CB all night, and really they let them play when he didn't have the ball in his hands, but they called it tight on the on-ball defender.
Now I see what 06kitty was trying to say. OTHER than having ISU's best player dominate them inside, ISU making some good defensive stops in overtime, UNI getting outcoached, UNI dropping a "rivalry" game on their home court, and UNI having their worst night of the point shooting... UNI did outplay us.
Imagine him next year, though. I think he could easily be better than AT by then.
Johnny Moran and his 5 points that he scored when he had to play a real team.... jesus. you are drinkin some UNI kool-aid. i dont think there is more talent now then there was under McD and i doubt there will be.
Im just saying.. ISU was led by underclassmen, and ISU is the school bringing in recruits like Colvin, Gilstrap, Kadima, Dykstra, probably Kelm... and dare i say maybe Harrison Barnes
I'm still trying to figure him out.
He was one guy I was really unsure of coming in, but he seems to have decent awareness, if that makes sense. I have no idea if he has any post moves, though.
This is why I REALLY wish we could have a blowout game. I know we're not built to do so, but I'd love to see us be able to run like 10 minutes straight of Hamilton and Vanderbeken in the post and just feed it in there to see what they can do.
It's a personal philosophy, but I'm a guy that prefers to ride your big guys as far as they can take you.

Really glad Eric Coleman has graduated for UNI. That guy use to eat us up inside.
Mac said on the post game that he wanted to deny their inside play and force them to shoot from the outside. He pretty much got that done.
Nice win and even though UNI has lost some real talent from last years team, it's show's we're progressing when we beat them on their home floor. Cripes they spanked us at Hilton last year didn't they?

Ehhh, I'm not seeing it. I think he's a good player, but to say he's going to be a STUD is a bit premature. He scored 21 against Texas Southern (6 threes) and 15 against Chicago St. Marquette held him to 5 pts (1-6 from 3's) and tonight he scored 5 pts (2-9 from the field, 0-6 from 3's). Seems to me he's padded his numbers against lightweight competition & also teams that didn't have a scouting report on him. At this point he seems to be a kid that can hit an open 3-pointer, but if you get in his jock & hassle him a bit you can certainly take him out of his game. If you think Moran is going to be a STUD, then Eikmeier is going to be an All-American.
JVB seems like a young, more athletic Jiri to me. At this point it looks like he's all offense and no defense except a block or a foul. Koch made him look silly several times in the first half. He played much better D in the second half though, the little he was in.
but the two big conference schools have been able to shut him down... i dont doubt that he will be a good MVC player. but a good MVC guard typically gets shut down by a average Big XII or Big East guard
All I'm saying is we shot 32 threes and made hardly any of them and still almost won the game. If we even shoot below average, and not rediculously horrid, it might be a different story.
Don't know why Jordan didn't get a few more minutes in the second half. Coaching decisions is the number one issue with our team right now, in my opinion.

That is why we say the Clones are also up and coming. We are young with good talent coming in too. Our guards will get more physical over the next few years.
Interesting UNI only turned it over 3 times and we were like 12. That should be a difference maker, but it wasn't.
